| O'Neil on 17:04 - Jun 18 by SomethingBlue | At this point I think it'll be him and he'll need total support from everyone, even the highly unconvinced. Problem is that whoever comes up after McKenna is pretty much set up for a fall. The timing has really screwed us in some ways. It has to go right as I don't think yo-yoing again would go especially well for us so we just need to get on with it. |
SB... how oh how did we get here? From KMac to O'Neil? Really? REALLY? Do you actually believe he's the right choice?

No, but we will just need to get behind it and hope that he finds a formula to keep us in the division even if it's by kicking and screaming.

TBF..... KMs history in tbe PL isn't too hot and he'd pretty much have to build a new team from scratch. That's a tough ask. I think Kieran has earnt the right to go to the next level and I think he made the right choice. Leave now, take a break and hand over the reigns. And protect our legacy with him. Now we put emotions aside and it's pragmatism. We get probably ONeill and he probably has a better PL record than Kieran. But, not a stellar one.

| O'Neil on 16:19 - Jun 18 by tractorboy1978 | I wouldn't say I am totally convinced but I think some people are a bit blind to the fact anyone we appoint is going to come with a risk. Knutsen/Barry might seem sexier appointments but one of them has never managed outside of Scandanavia and one of them has never managed full stop. Either of them could be brilliant but I'm not sure there is any proof they are more likely to work than Ole is (or O'Neil for that matter even though he isn't someone I warm to from what I have seen). |
yes, any new managerial appointment comes with a risk. What's really important is that our new manager is able to recruit well, working with Ashton & our scouting team. But purely as a coach, I think we'll need someone a bit better than average if we are to have a chance of staying up & I don't think a couple of decent seasons with a strong Man U squad indicates that OGS has any idea about recruitment or can set up a below average PL squad to survive. I'd rather roll the dice on one of the foreign coaches.

| O'Neil on 22:55 - Jun 18 with 592 views | ITFCBlues | What is the issue with GON? Did a good job at Bournemouth, a club in a similar position to us now. Worked with lesser players and kept them up comfortably. Good job at Wolves in the circumstances and players being sold left, right and centre leading to them being relegated last season. Took Strasbourg to a European Semi-Final. Thats a pretty strong CV for a manager who knows what it takes to setup a side to compete and be difficult to beat at this level. The alternative couldn't be arsed with managing for 5 years recently and just off a mediocre spell in Turkey. GON seems a fairly solid appointment for where we are as a club currently trying to establish ourselves in the PL. | |

I’d personally have him over OGS. I don’t really care if OGS is mates with McKenna, some seem to think it will be a much easier transition. Personally, with the era over, I’d rather turn the page and rip it up a bit. If we get the recruitment right O’Neil would have a chance, there’s been a really bad vibe at Wolves for ages. Look at how it fell apart this year after how strong they ended the season when we went down. His record before was quite good in the PL Not sure why everyone is so convinced we are going to fail without KM. His tenure was outstanding for us but it’s not like the last two seasons were elite either. We made it up which is all that matters but I don’t think we are instantly doomed with his departure either.

Agreed. GON has a track record of keeping sides up, his time at Bournemouth was impressive. Not sure why there is so much negativity

Completely agree. His work at Bournemouth was very impressive. It’s played down because he was replaced by Iraola who was even better but he inherited a shitshow from Scott Parker. He had everything sold from under him at wolves. I’m not quite sure what people are expecting, we’ve spent one season in the top flight in the past 25 years. If it’s him, I just hope people get behind him.

I think he will surprise people and do well if it’s him. Obviously recruitment is key. Pretty sure everyone is just looking at the Wolves season where he was fired because we happened to be in the same league at the time. I’m not sure why but I’m just not feeling OGS.

I'd rather have O'Neil than Solksjaer. The latter has a real feel of Van Nistelrooy at Leicester about thim.
