| The Potential O'Neil appointment 14:14 - Jun 19 with 2723 views | hype313 | I'm not overly excited or enthused by him if he does become our manager, however, taking a step back, he has more experience in our current situation than OGS. We can't gamble on a rookie, too much riding on it, fine mid table in League One with huge resources, but not when we're about to embark on a tough PL season. There aren't many other candidates that are a) available b) achievable or c) float my boat. So, with that being said, this appointment, whilst isn't sexy or inspiring, does have some credibility and thought behind it. [Post edited 19 Jun 14:15]

| The Potential O'Neil appointment on 14:37 - Jun 19 by positivity | between us and fulham in the relegation odds? just sunderland, so this is the kind of team we have to be competing with. look at the names on their list and compare it to ours. i think we need to be looking at our version of de zerbi, hurzeler, mckenna, frank, silva, iraola(when they arrived at their clubs, not now, clearly!), rather than looking in the same old pool of the failed british managers lunch club |
I’m not exactly excited by GON in the slightest, but I think he’s being significantly undervalued by some of our fans. Saying we should get our Iraola, De Zerbi etc is fine in writing, but how often do they actually come off? (Watford gone through x amount of foreign managers, Southampton etc too). No matter which manager we appoint, there’s no certainty it will work. Personally, the entire pool of available / realistic managers at the moment seems poor, but I can certainly see the logic behind GON. Young, British, experience in the Prem by keeping two other teams up. Interestingly, I also had a look at some of the players he signed at Bournemouth & Wolves; includes Semenyo, Zabayarni, Strandt Larsen, so has a good record of bringing players in.

Still doesn't answer the question though. People keep saying not GON, we should go for someone better, I've yet to see a credible name.

In short I am not sure, none of it is inspiring. Like for like salary Eddie Howe is on 5m a year basic, so that is the ceiling fiscally not viability.

| The Potential O'Neil appointment on 14:38 - Jun 19 by Marshalls_Mullet | I think its hard to get excited about someone who has spent their managerial career circling the drain. But there is more nuance to it I guess. I think he did OK at Bournemouth, but Iraola has really moved them on since he left. Maybe GON did the hard bit. He had some fantastic players at Wolves including Cunha and Ait Nouri. Kilman was very good then too. So thats a bit harder to judge. I dont think GON is a sexy appointment, but hes not necessarily a bad one. I guess its easier to think we know he has a low ceiling, whereas if we appoint an unknown, our imagination can run wild. Whoever gets appointed will have my backing. |
“He had some fantastic players at Wolves including Cunha” Who he couldn’t control. Can you see one of our players ever doing what Cun*a did with McKenna in charge?

Unlikely, but KM's never had that level of player to deal with as a manager. KM's walked out, he's not coming back.

Clements - Wouldn't leave Norwich for us. Ange - His style of football with our team will make us end on single digit points. Hellberg - Decent manager but similar story to Ange. Potter - Can't wait for Sweden to be knocked out of the World Cup. Rodgers - Probably doesn't want to leave Saudi due to his salary. So still hasn't really answered the question.

It has you just dont agree theyre credible Clements.. why not? Hes hardly a nodge legend Ange. We need a new team anyway and his style might actually work better Hellberg. Same Potter. Possiblt true Rodgers.. i think it could be done. Hes earned a wedge already

| The Potential O'Neil appointment on 14:19 - Jun 19 by positivity | we were all told that kmc had a fantastic salary, if that's the case we ought to have been able to attract better than a divisive character with a very mixed record in the prem |
A significant chunk of McKenna's compensation package was performance related, but either way I'm not sure we are a particularly attractive option for prospective managers. If you rank PL teams we currently have the 18th-19th worst squad in relation to the and anyone coming in will know that they have a lot of work to do, and are coming in following a very popular manager who is going to be a hard act to follow.

Also considering we are still paying KM how does that effect what we can afford

There it is again. Oneil spent 18 months at bournemouth before taking over. He had his prem squad signed by others before he took on the job. This job is nothing like the only one time he did it.

| The Potential O'Neil appointment on 15:41 - Jun 19 with 322 views | SouperJim | While I understand that many would have hoped for someone better, O'Neil has twice kept a club in a similar position to us in this division. Something McKenna couldn't do last time around and frankly didn't look capable of, yet nobody wanted him to leave. Strange bunch, football fans. [Post edited 19 Jun 15:52]

Ok, so what have Clement, Hellberg, Ange done that makes you think they would be a better proposition? Hellberg, a guy who lost the plot when his best player got Injured, Clement who's never managed in the PL, Ange who plays russian roulette football and Rodgers who's never leaving Saudi in a million years. Glad you're not in charge of recruitment.

Think thats harsh on hellberg tbf. They xgs was still incredibly high. Youre glad im not yet the one is seems like hes about to.hire someone who got sacked by a team who we were above in our worst ever prem season. Absolutely dont have to agree with the names ive put. But oneil imo is a bad a name as can be too.
