Doesn't matter if he was our first choice or an 'exciting' appointment. He's gone through the same interview/assessment process as the last manager and that worked out pretty damn well. A lot of judgements being clouded by him not being an exciting name. He's a young and promising manager who has done good jobs for the first year wherever he has been. Where he needs to improve is kicking on in jobs. As a young manager he hasn't taken the easy jobs so fair play to him. He will have learnt a lot from his experiences. Doesn't excite me but he has a decent skillset, knows the division and he's young and will only get better. He's coming so i'm all in. A lot will come down to player recruitment now. Pragmatically he's bringing a good team with him in Jenkins and Neil Critchley. Critchley in particular is a top coach. Did well as a manager in his own right but for me is a really high calibre No.2.

I take heart from this then. I am hoping this board isn't unbearable for a while though.

My issue is he has a complete meltdown at Wolves - especially admitting he struggled to control the players at the end of his time at Molineux. Not exactly a good example of leadership. I hope I'm wrong but I haven't been this depressed with an appointment since Lambert's arrival. OK, admittedly, this is only the third since then but...

I was going to say that… looks more like two jobs for some.

We all adored the last manager but when we were getting beaten regularly in 2024-25, half the stadium would empty out long before the final whistle. So, not 100% convinced that support couldn't possibly be an issue in the stadium.

I would say that's a fair comment and one that should be considered. However, club cultures do run from the top down. You only have to look at Spurs, West Ham, Forest and Wolves to see that good managers can be spat out. Forest have been hanging on a bit imo. Spurs had Big Ange, Thomas Frank, Nuno, Conte and Tudor all good managers, but a team that's woefully underperformed and only recently changed their structure....they had to and I think De Zerbi will benefit massively. Conte was on record as saying there was an underlying issue and you have to really look at that and agree (Kane did and probably why he left) Wolves have had a number of decent managers, Rob Edwards had a lesser Boro steaming ahead of us last season, but then took Wolves down with just 20 points. Make no bones about it, Sunderland were an outlier last year, they were pretty awful to watch and statistically, should have been relegated. They'll need to improve a lot next season imo, their recruitment was spot on, I don't think they've got some god like manager. I think O'Neil will have us battling for 17th place. No more no less. Can we be better than Palace without Frank, Fulham without Iraola, Sunderland with European trips to contend with and Coventry and Hull? That's it, that's our mini league. O'Neil should have a chance.

Follow the Town, up and...well lets leave that there cos its a nice song
