Clarke from Scotland leaves 00:44 - Jun 28 with 2669 viewsquirkie

He was given a 4 year deal before the WC but the total embarrassment of Scotland failing for the 15th time to qualify for the KO stage has seen him depart.

Would McKenna fancy a spell as an international manager? Might be less intense than managing in club football.

Just thinking aloud if Scotland did go for him would they have to pay compensation to ITFC?

I am a glass half type of person.

They finished higher than their World ranking, and might have done better in a group that didn't contain the 5th and 6th best teams.

Only one country with a smaller population than Scotland (Uruguay) has qualified for more World Cups than their 9.

Their Achilles' heel is getting out of the group stage but 3 points in such a group was always likely not to be enough, given only one team qualified with 3 points and their goal difference was 5 better than Scotland's.

And there is a good chance they may qualify for the next Euros because there are two places for home nations who don't qualify automatically.

The groups they end up in are literally determined by their ranking and the spread for teams to keep the top seeds apart till the semi finals

So they'll always be in groups with two teams ranked significantly higher than them and they've got to learn to play those teams better, or win more games qualifying to boost their ranking, because but for two goals in injury time in their last game theyd have been in the playoffs and then been drawn against guess what a higher ranked team because theyd have been in pot 2, not pot 1 like Denmark

But as always the Scottish spend all their time believing their self importance through the Tartan army and moaning about England are enough to get them through things, ultimately that stuff doesn't win you football matches.

It's never a good look to stereotype an entire nation, and I don't think the players or the coach took that view which is all that counts in footballing terms.

No need to apologise. I usually enjoy the majority of your posts but I just have a thing about spelling mistakes.
