The fallout could be interesting if the Germans decide to go big on it. It's not a Premier League minnow that's been cheated, but one of the biggest footballing nations on earth. I hope the DFB go in hard.

Literally nothing they can do. Also, they only have themselves to blame.

I think it was soft. I hate VAR. I would be seething. But, if you interfere with the keeper, you run that risk It didn't decide the match though.

| VAR on 00:37 - Jun 30 with 1135 views | RetroBlue | OP: but outfield players go down at the slightest touch these days. So in the world of cheating professional footballers why would a GK be any different? Not saying what the keeper did wasnt absurd, but its commonplace in the game these days isn't it. | |

Almost all the stats, apart from the ones that count, were heavily in their favour. They had so much of the game but failed to construct winning positions. Probably quite lucky that they don't have to face France now and get absolutely hammered.

Yes, but they didn't score. They had 20 mins left to score. So VAR didn't decide the result. It influenced it, but didn't decide it. Gotta admit, it's funny!!

| VAR on 01:07 - Jun 30 with 1032 views | WicklowBlue | Not saying it wasn't soft but once the keeper.goes down with some level of interference.... Then the keeper was not in a position to set for the subsequent shot and goal. Simply just don't interfere with the Keeper!!! Didi Hamann said it was the correc5 decision. The bigger issue for Germany was not this decision. | | | |

Looks like he’s playing the man and not the ball in that shot. But then that also shows how ridiculous it is that all the other holding is that goes on in the box isn’t penalised. The game’s in a right muddle over manhandling, with inconsistency all over the pitch depending on where it takes place, whether it’s in open play or a set piece, etc.

it's very soft and I was surprised it got overturned BUT as you say, he did interfere with the goalie, who subsequently let in a goal. Personally I don't think he'd have got it regardless, but its a bit stupid from the German number 3. He definitely wasn't "going for the ball" so his only contribution would have been to block the goalie, which i think they're trying to discourage at corners/freekicks. Ultimately it's Germany so who cares.

the World Cup seems divided into teams that want to play football with the basic idea of scoring goals and those that largely don't. Whatever tactic suits the skillsets and strength of individual teams. It has always been so. However they are so efficient at it now. What is clear is how easy it has become to completely neuter attacking teams with the low press, high workrate, high discipline to track runs, mark the space and players that need marking. Unless you are attacking, every player has a defender role now.

Don't you think this is because of how the teams play? Passy passy passy passy........When did wingers stop running past their man and crossing it. Germany's only goal came from a cross and a header. Their other good chances came from that too. Yet, they still at time just passing it around the penalty area. You see it from England too. [Post edited 30 Jun 12:59]

All Pep's fault. It is so formulaic now. But very efficient . As for wingers, Sane for Germany is a standard example of wingers today. Scared of being one on one and possibly having to take the full back on, it is easier to cut in, get a shot off or recycle it. There are examples contradicting this, e.g Vini jr or Saka when he is on it. It used to be one of the key battles, a winger v the left/back back going back to the likes of Bobby Petta and Clive Woods, something to get people off or to the edge of their seats. Not so much now. Probably because of doubling up and the backs being so much more athletic now. Often faster than the winger they are facing.
