I think I'm normally pretty balanced and patient and normal at this stage I'm in no rush but Ashtons comments does the club no favours..... think we all expected soneone in the door by now?

Based on how Ipswich Town summer transfer windows go I certainly wasn't expecting anyone in yet.
Think week after next things will start to get moving. I'm certainly not in the hurry up we need players in now camp but equally we just cannot make the same mistakes we have made the last 2 summers where we go in to the first few games short, especially with a new manager. |  |

It's generally quiet right now, as the entire football world is focussed elsewhere. Most PL clubs have closed only 1 or zero signings. We're on two (ok people might 'dismiss' Akpom & Kipre, but many of the other club's signings so far have been loans converting to permanent e.g. Coventry's 1 signing).

Only Chelsea, Brighton & Spurs have closed much, and most of those are youngster investments.
Yes, there has been a (very small) handful of big signings (Hackney, Anderson, etc), but you can count those on one hand.
As frustrating as it is, the transfer window is dependent on the domino effect for the majority of signings, and that hasn't begun yet. I'll be quite please if we make some headline signings during the 2nd half of July. |  | | |

From the perspective of Ashton, who can see the whole process, we might well be making good progress, but the end is weeks away from the date of that comment, not days. The fans see none of the drawn-out persuasion and negotiations, imagining it's a matter of a few quick phone-calls, then the player jumps in his car to come down for a medical.
We are, after all, not only asking another club to give up one of its assets - likely for a fee less than their desired valuation, or more spread out - but also asking someone to uproot their life and perhaps family, move home and start a new job, which could well be at a lower level (or with greater risk) than he was hoping for. |  |

But what does 'down the road' equal in time in your head?
I don't mean that to sound rude but from a time perspective that could equal 2 days or 4 weeks or 2 months etc. Down the road can well mean we've agreed everything in principle with player, club etc but we still need to finalise the legal stage of the deal.
Over the years I've been well down the road on buying property but while all were at the same stage when I said that a couple took 3-4 weeks to complete and another took 2 months. The 2 month one caused by the buyer solicitor wanting to cross every T and dot every I, 200 times. |  | | |

Deals might be very close or all but done we don't know. Also the manager has been on like 10 days...7 'working days' if you like though and first week will have been manic.
Even for those deals that might be all but done or close he's going to want to meet them and then meet him. He also hasn't even had time on the training ground with players and if you are going to sign off on transfers you might at least want to be sure in your own head on the group you already have.
Let's not forget how many players are away at the World Cup/on holiday etc.
I know your point was also around the optics but I think everyone has to be grown up enough to understand transfers at this time are few and far between even without all the above context.
For what it's worth I genuinely don't believe we have missed any targets etc with the transition the GON. | |

Did you take a look at the link I provided. I'd argue that very few deals of any significance have happened - less than 10 that will be starters for their respective club. 10 across 20 clubs.

I'd disagree on both counts
The market is overall, its a complete ecosystem and many of those other leagues are ones that we are potentially doing our shopping in, its all interlinked.
Noticeable signings
Spurs, everyone
Everton, Hackney
Brighton, Vuskovic and Struijk
Bournemouth, Rodriguez (not officially but according to all reports done and dustsed)
Brentford, Schuster
Chelsea, Palestra
Liverpool, Munoz
City, Anderson
Utd, Ederson (not official due to WC duties but agreed and done)
Newcastle Jaoeun
Hull Butland, but accept that was driven by their finnancial situation.
Thats half the league making at least 1 significant signing, Let alone all the other dominoes falling everywhere else. As I say in my OP I think I'm generally quite measured when it comes to transfers or anything else around the club, I'm not worried about the lack of incomings, I do think the messaging from the club (Ashton) could be better.
With language, I think your helping make my point. Yes I have drawn an inference from whst was said but I dont think it can be denied said phrase is generally accepted as meaning pretty close. But given the phrase is open to interpretation it underlineds the importance of messaging. This was a planned interview around the manager search etc, the club at least had an idea of what was comming.

Deals were well down the road but then KM decided to leave. MA says signings subject to managers agreement so I suspect there is now a delay if GON does not want the players MC has identified and instead has his own ideas/transfer targets. | | | |

When I looked at Sunderland’s signings last season, I was surprised at how active they were early on, they’d already got a few in by 3rd July and got about 2/3rd of their business done in July. I don’t know what that tells us about anything other than they could get early deals done and it served them well. I’m not expecting us to be like that though. |  |
