One of the worst WC matches that I have ever seen was England v Rep of Ireland during the 1990 WC.
It was repeated on iplayer during Covid so I watched it again - absolutely appalling with the ball being launched by both teams on a continuous loop. |  | | |

Get out...3-4 games! About half all international tournament football is nervous, turgid play. It's just the way it goes when risking being open, and expansive can mean losing your place in the competition, if you get the balance wrong. Maybe we should restrict the FA Cup to 16 Premiership teams only. Too many boring games. Had enough lower league sides playing each other or setting up for a 1-0 win on the counter. |  |

I wouldn't say they were mismatches but this has been the most predictable world cup ever. Ever favourite won the group except Portugal who came 2nd and every 2nd round game was won by the favourite bar the penalty shootouts. |  |
