I think that in the wake of Ann Widdecombe‘s death, Farage should call the whole stunt off and get on with representing his constituents the way AW did during her time in Parliament.

It seems to me to be a major flaw in our political system that an MP can resign less than half way through their term only to stand as a candidate in the subsequent by-election. I'd rather voters just boycotted the entire farce rather than vote for the comedy candidate. |  | | |

I'm far from a centrist, but I don't agree that's the point in this instance. Governments of all stripes tend to be successful when the parliamentary party, and particularly the cabinet, are largely united around a vision for the country and the pathway to achieving it.
Starmer's party has never had this, and were so concerned about getting in to power that they didn't seem to consider what they were going to do once they got there. Hence the multiple U-turns and party infighting since winning the election. The result is that Starmer is universally unpopular with almost everybody in the country and has lost all authority. | | | |

With Burnham, only IF it ends up that he can govern more effectively and ethically and start to improve people lives then I’ll have less of a problem with it. As long as some good comes from it. At the moment it looks like naked ambition.
