Even with Morita, if it happens, midfield still feels desperately short

We need a big signing in the centre as well as Morita

Wouldn't surprise me if that's the sort of deal that happens late in the window once squads start to settle down and options start to narrow down for players.

Agree and I have been saying this for a while now but pretty obvious so I'm sure the club have targets and are working hard on it . A weak midfield for me was our biggest problem last Premier league season .

I think we need 2 starters, its the most important area for us to get right IMO.

We've struggled here for a while now . Although I think Matusiwa was a beast in the Championship with limitations I cant help but think we need so much more in the middle of the pitch this season compared to our previous venture in the premier League

Who that could be I have no real idea but I truly hope we're fishing in those appropriate places we have been already this Summer

Someone(s) with pace and physicality to get around the place with perhaps Azor cleaning up behind them

Vital we get this position sorted this season

I think we still need 2/3 CMs that gives us options. I'd go with an experienced campagner and perhaps two up and coming prospects. One will be a hit and one a miss. But if we get really lucky both the kids will be hits.

If we get the expected 5-6 players in this week that will be a great thing for our chances of survival.

I had entirely forgotten that for our opening game against Liverpool in 2024 we only had 2 starters who hadn't been part of the previous Championship campaign, 7 of the 11 had been with us in league one.

I agree 100%. For me Morita would compete with Matusiwa for one of the slots, and then we need two options for the other slot (if Taylor stays he would be fifth in order).I would be keen on Berg (Bodö Glimt) that was mentioned/linked a couple of weeks ago, he is very mobile and clever player.

I like the link with Yunus Musah. That is the profile of midfielder we need in there with Matusiwa/Morita IMO. Caleb Yirenkyi (Nordsjaelland - played with Egeli) is another one in a similar mould.

Their goalkeeper also had more premier league goals than our whole starting eleven combined

Could be our third Midfield M-uskiteer - Morsy, Matusiwa, Morita :)))

Certainly agree we are still a bit light in CM even if Morita joins. Matusiwa can step up but I’m concerned Jack Taylor might’ve hit his ceiling.

I think we might see a few more departures before further signings. H Clarke, Akpom, Szmodics and maybe Palmer if Scherpen signing goes through and Walton’s injury isn’t deemed long-term.

Probable departures IMO

Palmer
Clarke (H)
Szmodics
Ogbene
Humphreys
Al-Hamedi

Possible Departures

Furlong
Taylor
Hirst
Philogene
Akpom
Mehmeti

I suppose that's the one good thing about O'Neil coming in, is that there will be no sentimentality.
I think a few in the group will be expected to show their worth during this week.
