I would have thought these shops wouldn't sell them if people didn't want to buy them.
Personally, I think illicit fags are what happens when a tax becomes extortionate and unreasonable. For those who don't know, even the cheapest low-grade brand now costs £15ish per packet, while the better brands are £20ish. Whereas illicit fags can cost in my experience, roughly £5 or £6 per pack.

Yeah it is, but I think we may be into diminishing returns there now, without looking at the stats, that is. Anyone who's not given up or smoking vapes now is in my view, unlikely to put off by high prices. I could easily be wrong, accepted, but that's how it feels here at least. | |

No, not at all - just i think his celebration of this may be out of step with some folk. They've become a fact of life and round my way, are in most shops - even normal-looking corner shops, but almost certainly, every vape shop.
My wider point is that huge tax has helped create this situation and if the goal of such tax was to put people off smoking, it may now be having unintended consequences. Hooky fags are everywhere and if counterfit (as opposed to smuggled) they're even worse for you potentially. . [Post edited 23 Jul 16:10]

It makes you wonder whether this cut in business rates will make any difference to the price of a pint. I popped into my local for a Peroni a few days ago. £6.20. There were a handful of people in there. Not being able to go to PR due to ticket availability I will probably venture to the pub to watch televised games with my Son-in-law. Illegal cigarettes are basically one of the revenue streams for organised crime - and it is surprising how many are actually made in the UK rather than imported through "forced" labour.
I gave up smoking 15+ years ago, one of the best decisions I ever made - I have little sympathy for those who still smoke when there are alternatives with patches, gum to hlp ween off etc, and no, I don't consider vaping a viable alternative as it concerns me what chemicals are in those things. |  | | |
