I very much doubt it’s true but people claiming on Birmingham side that they’re working on deal.

Can’t see it being true - especially considering how important he was for us last season.

We bought him for £2/3m including add ons if I remember rightly and I very much expect they’ve got a sell on fee.

I’d be surprised if we sold him for anything less than £8-10m including add ons. That should be the very least for a top end championship midfielder going into his prime with prem experience. Was a big part of team, second half of the season

I think Jack would do OK in the Prem, he has vastly improved as a player under Mckenna.

Ok maybe not first chopice but a top sub to bring on for some hard tackles, athleticism and the occasional laser passing....(see QPR home last game).

You honestly think we are spending 35-40m on a CM under any circumstances this close season?

I would be very pleasantly situated surprised but I hope that's not an expectation from fans. Not even sure if that level of CM would come to us at the moment.

i think people will be pleasantly surprised by our budget this summer. If we are spending £24 million on Emersonn, who seems a project, i can quite easily see us spending upto £30 million on our key creative/attacking cm alongside Matusiwa. This signing will probably be our marquee signing this summer i would imagine, albeit Daizen will be that for me.

Of all the CMs we have I think he’s most suited to the Prem.

He’s a top end Championship player and that’s probably his ceiling.

Sounds like an obvious move

I'd argue top end is a stretch. Think he's a mid-table champ level player at best.

I think we could and would spend that much, for the right man. The difficulty, as you say, would be attracting such a level of player to Ipswich as a not-yet-established side.

Good Lord! Whatever is it?

It was intended as an illustration of the impact of player sales - even at relatively lower values. It could equally be viewed as being able to buy two players at £17-20M each rather than two at £10M. It gives us significantly more spending power.

Do I think we might drop £35M on a player this window? Yes, I think it's possible. We were willing to offer £20M+ on a CM last summer, and we have more spending power, and the need for better this summer. It may be a challenging sale, but it's not beyond the realms of possibility imo.

Burnley just spent over £20M on Florentino in the Championship. Is it so unlikely that we'll end up spending over £30M for a player in a position where there's a shortage of options?

Not surprised at all that Championship clubs are sniffing around him, given his output last season. And, clubs will be inferring correctly that he won't be a regular for his in the prem so there's potential for a deal. You can probably count on one hand the players we wouldn't even consider an offer for, and he's not one of them.

Only issue would be if we let him go without a definitive replacement. He could be a useful option off the bench, but if that is happening, something has gone wrong in this window.
