Potentially but I certainly wouldn’t want him to leave without at least a replacement through the door!
| Jack Taylor to Birmingham? on 21:12 - Jul 28 with 4428 views | Cheltenham_Blue | Seen a few similar comments also a claim that it’s a done deal but being held up our end until we sign a replacement. Something was also mentioned last week. No fire, but a little bit of smoke | |

Jacks been helpful but if we are to have a shot at staying up we need much much better than Taylor in our midfield. I don't even think Nunez is safe tbh

I’d argue he’s more of a ‘prem’ midfielder than Nunez though - athletic and can run up and down the pitch - don’t get me wrong I wouldn’t want him starting every game but as 4/5th choice or maybe coming off bench for last 20 mins, I don’t think he’s a terrible option! Just thought he would of been one of the ones to stay as he’s been here a while and knows club but also he maybe wanting regular first team football which I would understand as well!

As someone said the other day, for what he currently stands on our books at, if we was to sell for £3m - ish. That allows us to buy someone at £15m on a 5 year contract. Can see why that might appeal to Town.

We bought him for £2/3m including add ons if I remember rightly and I very much expect they’ve got a sell on fee. I’d be surprised if we sold him for anything less than £8-10m including add ons. That should be the very least for a top end championship midfielder going into his prime with prem experience. Was a big part of team, second half of the season | | | | Login to get fewer ads

This sums it up perfectly. Instantly recognised revenue that can be ploughed back in as a multiplier. Could mean the difference between getting in a £20M CM compared to £35-40M

I would quite like to keep him to be honest in the squad. But honestly I'm don't think he is a top end champ player on his own. He's absolutely a good and solid champ player who gives his all. Birmingham is an interesting link as they are probably one of the few that might pay a decent and interesting fee for him. If you could get £7-8mil you have to take it to be honest. More or less all useable profit to go and get a £20 mil man aggravated over a few years.

That’s a bit of an over simplification. Yes the two deals would balance in year 1 but we’d have to sell a £3m player every year for five years to actually find a £15m player.

Jack is 28 and you would think he will want to play as many minutes as possible where ever that may be next season.

Your answer in an over simplification. A profit on the books allows us to spend more and contracts are spread over the the contract term and amortise. That £15m player could just as easily be bought in year one and sold for £20m in year two showing a £8m profit. I accept that isn't guaranteed but that's the game of profit and sustainability. He's done what we signed him for, help us get to the PL, hes probably not good enough to keep us there. Totally agree if someone offered 8 mil we have to take it. Tbh I think more like 5 would do it. Hes been great but to stay up we need more, didnt Posh originally quote us 10mil or something

It’s precisely how the player trading model works. Each year you expect to have players to sell, and as you move up the ladder of players acquired, the amount you sell them for increases. Of course there is a ceiling to that model, but we’re a long way from that. Under SCR it’s even more important, since every £M from player sales keeps our costs:revenue ratio down.

he's currently probably our 2nd best for the 2 central midfielder berths, so i'd want 3 new midfielders before letting him go. he's good enough to be back-up, and it'd be good to have some continuity in the squad, or it's a team of strangers under a new manager without credit in the bank with the fans.

| Jack Taylor to Birmingham? on 22:56 - Jul 28 with 2788 views | PioneerBlue | The idea of a player worth £40m coming to us as an upgrade for Jack Taylor is interesting but doesnt feel realistic at this time, plus the wages and the guarantees around relegation release or continued wages would be a challenge. I dont know how we would square that financial circle, nor attract that player this summer. Bonus if it happens! [Post edited 29 Jul 6:41]

You honestly think we are spending 35-40m on a CM under any circumstances this close season? I would be very pleasantly situated surprised but I hope that's not an expectation from fans. Not even sure if that level of CM would come to us at the moment. SB

| Jack Taylor to Birmingham? on 07:46 - Jul 29 with 1784 views | TownieRob | I think he deserves a move. While reliable when called upon, he's not going to rip any trees in the PL. He's had a real stop start career with us and I think moving on would be a good move for him. A chance to find a home as a starter and perhaps get 10 G/A from midfield. Talks of 7/8m for him seem crazy to me and if we could get 3m for him then he would go with my absolute blessing. | | | |
| Jack Taylor to Birmingham? on 08:44 - Jul 29 with 1573 views | OldFart71 | Possible I suppose. Fairly probable he will go somewhere as although he had a decent season in the Championship it was only one season in 3 or 4 and that after all was a season below where we are now. I have no axe to grind with Taylor. I must admit that last season was his best for us. Good enough for the Premier League ? I don't think so. It could be argued that Leif wasn't up to it. But I think in his case it was more to do with a midfield that wasn't mobile enough. Hence the need for us to get in a real up and down player alongside Matusiwa. Currently the players coming in look good. But if so many are allowed to leave as with Philogene, McAteer, Taylor and Hirst has also been mentioned doesn't that leave us with a similar situation that has occured before where the team needs to gel quickly and although it could be argued that the quality being brought in is better it still leaves us with the need to be very quickly into our stride as that seems to be when the smaller teams get their points before the big guns start showing their quality. | | | |
| Jack Taylor to Birmingham? on 09:49 - Jul 29 with 1357 views | IPSWICHFANITFC | I'm not sure what type of fee we would be looking for... does he has one year left on his contract? With an option? He's had three years here. The first year was probably a bit underwhelming - he struggled to break in over Luongo (who had a very good season) but I feel he was brought in to start more games. The second year was the PL season where he wasn't at that level, but not many of them were. The third year was his best season in an Ipswich shirt. Performed better and was more consistent. I always felt his role and the type of player he is haven't always been the perfect match. Like others have said, he is a Championship player and that is his level. | |
