| Rod Liddle dead at 66 on 08:34 - Aug 5 by balcombeblue | I actually thought it was just a bit of fun and slightly amusing. I didn’t have an avatar before. You’ve thrown a few labels around and I’ve had a joke about it. Shame we can’t both just laugh and move on. But out of respect and in the interests of continuing debate, I’ll change it. |
I guess without the historical context that makes sense. No worries if that was your intention. Other posters use it for totally different reasons. SB

| Rod Liddle dead at 66 on 08:31 - Aug 5 by StokieBlue | Interesting that you claim to be a victim then follow GB's childish technique of changing his avatar to try and provoke and pick fun at other posters. He's been asked not to do it before so it's not a route I would take. It's also incredibly childish. I thought you wanted debate not provocation? SB |
By the way, I wasn’t aware of the earlier context. I am not playing the victim. I was personally attacked for having a view contrary to yours. Some would say that if you can’t take a joke, the. Don’t dish it out….. In reflection, maybe more pleas t to throw fewer labels at people?

Not going to get back into this but I felt and still do feel you were being disingenuous in your debating. You were ignoring the know and admitted data in order to push the unconfirmed data which suited your narrative. But not getting back into this, enjoy your day. SB

Nice mention SB. You constantly refer to some of us as being in the “groovy gang” so I am reclaiming that label from you and wearing it as a badge of honour. When you called me a Muppet a few months ago I changed my avatar to Fozzie Bear. Who is being provocative? The person calling other posters “muppets” and being a member if this imaginary “groovy gang” or the person on the receiving end of the insult reappropriating the label and stripping away its malicious intent.

You've made two posts on this thread, both having a pop at me whilst not engaging in the actual debate at all. I would say you're not really on firm ground to have a pop at other posters given that posting. SB

| Rod Liddle dead at 66 on 11:05 - Aug 4 by itfcjoe | He's a right wing provocateur, it's literally his job to write columns that wind up people - but like you say people have to try and close down any debate and everyone has to fit in an accepted box of opinion that they dictate |
Come on that's totally different from supporting paedophilia whe the NSPCC asked him to stop and being outright racist. It's so repetitively tedious when people whine about being shut down when they are in fact materially damaging the welfare of others, often the disadvantaged.

"But Liddle’s targets as a columnist were not the authorities. Often they were Muslims and immigrants, transgender people and chronic illness sufferers, African-Caribbean men from Harlesden. He did not attack the establishment, he attacked the marginalised, constantly." Readers' "amusement" - at what cost to those people cited in Williams' opinion piece (and others)? Many people would dearly like to be well-paid published writers, but wouldn't sell themselves and others down the river like he did.

| It’s got to the stage…. on 11:39 - Aug 4 by Bloots | ….on here where even if you don’t want to engage in the debate, due to the inevitable abuse, you can’t downvote a post without getting attacked for it. As you say, I’m sure it discourages people from posting. It’s just not worth the grief. Sadly, once the LAS mark your card then that’s it. Rock ‘n Roll. |

| Rod Liddle dead at 66 on 14:28 - Aug 4 by The_Flashing_Smile | It's got nothing to do with "on here". I have a view on who are decent people whether they're on here or not, and maybe I'm going mad but I think decent people would be those who don't agree with promoting paedophilia or gunning down migrants. There are plenty of grey areas of course, but I think I'm on firm ground with those two opinions. And I feel well within my rights to challenge them. |
Crazy how the norms of what's acceptable have changed isn't it? Yet those of us who challenge the normalisation rationalisation or acceptance of pretty objectively repugnant views and prejudices are the problem. People just wanna go back to the 70s and enjoy picking on the weakest in society

Well said. Anything goes apparently otherwise it's being shut down. Tommy Robinson to host QT? Lawrence Fox to anchor the Today programme? Joey Barton to he on This Morning Not bad people just did a few bad things and who gives a sh1t about the huge number of people who suffer from their propagation of lies and hatred. Maybe those complaining on here would like these appointments [Post edited 7 Aug 1:22]
