Few journalists write in such a witty and challenging way. I've no doubt that he had no truck whatsoever for paedophiles, his articles are not written in a way that suggests he supports them in any way.
The first article linked in the Guardian is a thought experiment that I remember as a student in my first year of politics. It's definitely not delicately written, he may even have regretted doing so, but that was the risk he was always willing to take. The second is written with clear irony. Either way he was a journalist whose uniqueness was to write things that challenge the reader. He was always risking being very crass, offensive and wrong, but that was baked in when reading his articles. We need journalists to be able to write openly and take risks, I don't interpret the Guardian article as supporting child abuse in any way, but he is questioning the boundaries of law. I think Harriet Harman had a similar media storm?

I probably should have said supported paedophilia rather than paedophiles, implicitly by not challenging it. Where do we draw the line between what he said and what he believed? I know he peddled outrage for a career, but at some point there’s got to be some boundaries that are unacceptable to cross. Where do we draw that line? Do we believe him when he said he wanted to look at child porn or would shag the kids if he was a teacher, or do we believe him when he says what a paedo did was wrong?

Anyway, I stand by the fact that hundreds of his articles are thought provoking. Whether he was racist or not is something which we'd need to have read his mind to know.

He produced no evidence that he was hacked, the posts were never taken down and he admitted to making some of them. Given they were fairly consistent it seems likely that if he made some of them he made most of all of them.
