Loan ?? We don’t seem to be able to sell barely anyone, we did do some bad business in the last year or so, paid some top dollar clearly

It’s far far simpler than that.

Once we were promoted, everyone’s pay got a leg up. Most of the guys we want to ship out will now be on around 25k pw, who was the average salary we paid last time out.

If you’re the player you aren’t going to move to a club for less money so loans are only way unless we agree to partially pay up their contract.

That's a very lopsided take on it imo.

Many PL clubs have loads of players out on loan. It's incremental income to help balance the books, and we hold onto a potential asset. Kasey is (again imo) a far better player than many give credit for - his underlying stats have been good since he joined, and that promise was beginning to show as last season progressed.

By loaning him out it keeps our options open - if he does well at WBA and develops further, his value will go up, and we then have either someone who's improved even more to add to the squad at the end of the loan, or we sell him for an increased amount. This is all part of the club's new value proposition.

Get real- we would bite the hand off if any club offered our money back on him now- or even 70-80% of what we paid, or on Ogbene and Szmodics too for that matter. Building incremental income- utter nonsense.

Maybe with Macateer but Al Hamadi ? Not likely to feature for us wherever we are, and also a loan

Al hamadi is just being loaned to prevent us paying contract termination. Injury and ability no one will take a chance at a level which will match his wages, he's going to be paying a game if personal benefit while Ipswich have to ensure some financial balancing with it. He was a truly awful acquisition

Far too sensible and rational post. Where is the "he's cr@p", "good, get rid", "never be good enough for the Premier League" stuff?
Good post and worth an uppie.

That's exactly it, he is parroting the line fed to him by the club. They aren't going to say 'we are desperate to offload Kasey' are they? We want to get the best deal possible for him.

But it would be exceptionally bad employment practice to tell him he is part of O'Neil's plans, and to brief the press accordingly, if that were not the case.

Indeed. You'd have to very naive to believe that Ashton would lie to the press.

Feels a bit wrong we are loaning AAH, Szmodics and now possibly Macateer as seems no one can afford to pay them the salary they are on here. Feels like there will be a few more as well

people keep talking about bad business but in hindsight its all been good business, we brought in players, maybe they didn't live up to expectation based on their price tags but we got promoted so job done. I dont overly rate Mcateer or even Egelli based on the money spent but they contributed to where we are today so hope they do well wherever they go.

" its all been good business" - even Ben Godfrey? Most of the incomings when we sank like a stone out of the Prem last time were bad business.

Amazes me the nonsense you come out with. I guess it shouldn’t with your track record though.

I get that not everyone is commercially astute, or understand the finances of 21st century football, but you might want to delve into a few football club’s account (including ours in recent years) to discover what can be generated from loan deals. That, plus asset value is incredibly important from an accounting view, and helps build where we need to be in five years. Just look at how our value as a club has increased.

"sank like a stone" seems particularly unfair on a side which was effectively built in League One.

So were Bournemouth, and they've stayed in the Prem.
