Having just binge-watched Big Little Lies on Now TV (which we really enjoyed), I have added Northern California to my list of must-visit places to get to. I had no idea it was just so beautiful. I also heard someone on the news this afternoon describe it as 'objectively the most beautiful place on earth'.
It got me wondering, what places have people seen in a film or TV show, and it has sparked the idea to visit? What show/film was it, what was the location, and have you been yet?

Every series of race across the world inspires me to want to go to most of the locations. In the wider world I've been to Angkor in Cambodia where Tomb Raider was filmed, though in truth I hadn't really seen the film and it wasn't my driver for going! Closer to home, many moons ago I set off on a pilgrimage to Brighton after watching Quadrophenia.

Matera and Gravina in Puglia in Italy which feature in the opening sequences of the Bond film No Time to Die, and Meteora in Greece which is in For Your Eyes only, although neither was as a direct result of seeing the film.

Last summer we visited Southfork Ranch in Dallas, a few Breaking Bad locations, dined at the Beverly Wilshire which was featured in Pretty Woman and visited Beverly Hills City Hall which was used for the Beverly Hills Police Headquarters in Beverly Hills Cop
I was thinking about places used for Album covers and music videos the other day. From memory I’ve crossed the Abbey Road zebra crossing, stayed at Pikes Hotel in Ibiza which was used for the Club Tropicana video and dined at the Berverly Hills Hotel (Pink Palace) which is featured on the cover of Hotel California.
Sometimes I think about the frothing lunatics I’ve put on ignore, who will have kept replying to me again and again, but I don’t even realise they exist.
Always wanted to visit it, but especially after the Clint Eastwood film Escape from Alcatraz came out. I actually went to it in 1992. It was great in a grim sort of way. Fulfilled another film wish to on that trip. Driving a car too fast down the hills of San Francisco Steve McQueen Bullitt style. Such fun.
November will fulfil another film related bucket list job - doing a cruise down the Nile after some time in Cairo. Loved the 70s Ustinov film Death on the Nile.
Edit: went to Colditz Castle a couple of months ago. TV series/film - bucket list ticked. It didn’t disappoint.

Having read Dracula by Bram Stoker, I visited Bran Castle in Romania in the early 80s when Romania was still communist.
It was reputed to be the home of Vlad the Impaler on whom Dracula is based.
The funny thing was that the Romanians at the castle played down the connection with Vlad the Impaler because they thought it reflected badly on the country, when in England such a connection would have been milked for all it was worth in order to boost tourism.
I also ate in a restaurant situated in a building which Vlad the Impaler's dad had occupied, according to the plaque above it.

It was watching Department Q on Netflix that finally made my wife and I get ourselves organised to go to Edinburgh. Glad we did. We had a great time.
Other places I'd like to go to having seen them on TV (police procedural series theme) include:
The Ragusa area of Sicily where Montalbano was filmed. I think you can actually stay in the building which was used as his house. Guadeloupe due to Death in Paradise. And the most recent - Lille, where HPI (French series on Disney+) is set. Funnily enough my wife's not massively enthusiastic about that but parts of it look quite nice for a couple of days. And there should be one or two decent restaurants to eat in.
Away from the police theme, as someone else has said Race Across the World always makes me want to go somewhere featured in it. As a result of the last series we're thinking of going to Halfeti in Türkiye, because that's the name of the perfume my wife wears, and also visit the place where the brother and sister from Manchester way saw the hot air balloons. Also, Uzbekistan and Georgia.

I think it’s had a lot of work on it since then and the museum aspects of it are very good.
They’ve got the replica glider in the roof and show a chunk of it (the documentary made about it some years ago). Fascinating place and I couldn’t help replaying the 1970s tv programme theme tune in my head throughout the visit and beyond!
It was interesting to get to. Train and buses from Leipzig. It really is in the middle of nowhere. Great little adventure day out though.

My parents took our family to Portmeirion, where the Prisoner was filmed, while on holiday in North Wales in the mid '70s. It was a bit disappointing at the time as it had been allowed to fall into quite a state of disrepair. It's been thoroughly revamped since.
