| Remember when 10:46 - Aug 12 with 2236 views | cressi | Ashton said we could get twenty eight thousand at Portman Road every week my mate and myself thought he was mad. It is truly amazing how far we have come off and on the pitch from Rory Fallon to a 28 million Brazilian. Long may it continue staying up would give us every chance to establish ourselves in the top tier. | | | | |

They were still laughing at him, but they were also laughing at the stupidity of 17 million people. But the club has made tremendous gains in the last few years. Hopefully we’ve given ourselves a real chance of staying up. [Post edited 12 Aug 13:17]

| Remember when on 13:17 - Aug 12 with 1622 views | Blue_Heath | Just shows how many people stayed away due to Evans and what a good set of owners that literally every week upgrade the stadium and surrounding can do. Since gamechanger came in literally every game you notice an improvement somewhere. This seasons highlight will be the upgraded bogs! | |

Talking of which anyone like me , just can’t see that new turnstile area being complete by Saturday week , going to be fun if it isn’t.

You think I'm stupid, I think you're stupid, so we'll agree to disagree

I'm sure somehow they'll manage to get it functional, if not fully finished, in time for Sunderland, but what would the upshot be if they don't manage to?

People stayed away because we weren’t successful. That was because of Evans of course, but lack of success was the main driver in those attendances dropping off. Had we been successful nobody would have cared about the state of the ground. It’s always been the way. Ground improvements are the cherry on top and very welcome, obviously.

| Remember when on 14:41 - Aug 12 with 1098 views | Bluedandy | I remember when people on here said the paltry 19K averaged in the 2014-2015 play off season reflected the true size of the club. They lampooned those who suggested the number had something to do with the culture of ownership. How events proved them wrong, the last three seasons have seen the club record its three highest ever average attendances. Two of those came in the Championship, so no wonder the owners and Ashton think they can fill Portman Road if they expand capacity to 40K. We just need to become an established Premier League club. I don't think we've had a better chance since its formation in 1992. [Post edited 12 Aug 14:44]

Under Evans the state of the ground saddened me tbh it was a bit like visiting a slowly dying relative every other week. I don't care what league we are in whether it's Accrington or Arsenal but have some pride in the club and respect is history, something Evans didn't do and gamechanger have done in abundance.

Even clever people can do stupid things - I know a doctor who once cooked a pizza in the oven but didn’t take off the plastic cover. Brexit was stupidity. [Post edited 12 Aug 15:27]

It wasn't because of Evans, it was because the football had been terrible for 6 years (partly owing to Evans's refusal to invest more money) .

To be fair to Evans - football just become a lot more expensive. When he initially invested, £10M with a decent manager would probably have built a promotion chasing team. By the time he left, £10M would buy a couple or so half decent championship standard players. Not sure if it was refusal, more like he just couldn’t afford to. He was still a complete disaster for the club.

Indeed, more in terms of his recruitment of managers. He picked 4 duds & ! decent manager (Mick). His due diligence seemed to consist of ringing up his mate & football advisor, one H. Redknapp & asking him what he thought about X or Y. "Triffic" said the dodgy One.
