Stu saying we are unlikely to push towards Leverkusen valuation 11:23 - Aug 14 with 4778 viewsjasondozzell

Do we think that's true or the club just trying to be savvy? Late increased bid incoming?

Not sure this is the last we hear of this deal yet..

If we’ve made a bid, we will have received some degree of encouragement from the players side (very possible it’s to be used to attract other clubs)

He’s reported to have suffered a 25% wage decrease this season given Leverkusen didn’t make the champions league.

Weren’t we rumoured to be paying Kalvin Phillips close to 100k a week? Would imagine it is possible, just incredibly unlikely due to the calibre of player.

Still feels incredibly unlikely but if a player of this calibre shows any interest in joining, would expect the club to go all out in trying to get a deal done.

Palacios has now clearly expressed his desire to transfer internally, according to information from @KSTA.

The Argentine is even said to have lowered his financial
demands for a move.

Palacios can now imagine a transfer to Ipswich Town.

However, the transfer fee offered so far of around 20 million euros is significantly below the expectations of the Leverkusen side.

Bayer 04 considers around 35 million euros to be a fair market price.

He’s on around £125k a week but recently took a pay cut as didn’t qualify for champions league so is now on around £90k a week. O’Shea is allegedly our top earner on £35k a week. You will cause discord in the dressing room if one player is paid nearly 3x what the next top earner is. Recruitment has definitely taken a leap in quality from last time in PL but we don’t want to end up like Leicester City if we get relegated with loads of players on top wages as it’s not sustainable paying that level of wage in championship let alone league 1. Also top players are reluctant to sign contracts where relegated clauses are inserted. The impression given is that he thinks he is better than town and wants to sign for a bigger club but as of yet none of the bigger clubs have shown interest unless he gets a better offer nearer the end of the transfer window.

Good work by Philogene...... GREAT WORK BY PHILOGENE!!!

Strikes me that our low-ball offer was to create some unsettlement in the player.

Which seems to be working. I'd bet we end up getting him for €28m plus some additional clauses that take it to €34m

You don't make an offer that low just to walk away.

HIs injury record is why the likes of Newcastle and others are not just bidding 40M right now and Leverkusen will know that. Probably a deal to be done in between what we bid and their valuation, if we want to take that risk.

You'd obviously want him available to play for you 30+ games a season with what we would have to pay him as well.

Poll: Ok gut feeling then, promotion?

Total nonsense. He's been a brilliant reporter on club for well over a decade, always fair and reasoned and a good eye for the game. Has a good relationship with the club but holds them to account.

My interpretation of that line is that we're not going to meet Leverkusen at their valuation but I think this is all part of the negotiation.

Worth remembering though that Stu will not have been told this directly by anyone at the club. He'll have tried to put 2 and 2 together base upon stuff he has been told anecdotally.

This could be a huge transfer for the club, there is no way on earth most of this deal in particular is being discussed outside of a very very small circle of club staff led by Ashton.

My guess is in the final days before the window closes.

Always a decent chance a bigger club misses out on a deal or another key target and enters the race at the end of the window though. So. Town will have a decision to make over the next 10 days I would think.

Personally, I doubt there is a better local football journalist anywhere else in the country.

I think the same can be said of Brenner when it comes commentary.

Our player wage bill two seasons ago works out as an average of £40k per week.

We have players on £3m+ per season (£60k+).

Out top earner is not on £35k per week.

Agreed the offer was tactical for a reason. We don't walk away as we know €15M is too low if that is the real bid figure as €20M also mentioned. It would be amateurish to bid low and walk off, other clubs will see that. It doesn't seem like our style in the last 3 or 4 yours based on what we have seen posted.

There will have been encouragement to bid and I wonder if the agent didn't just say to bid low to start to unsettle the club to allow the player to then start making the noises he might have and he really wants to move and would compromise on his wages to get a move.

Loads we don't know but feels like this one hotting up.

I agree with others we need to move quick, we have seen Villa and Newcastle on the look out for CM and Fulham were linked but wages high, maybe not so high for Fulham now. All speculation.

Ed should just play a free gig at Leverkusen as part of the add-ons.
