| European Athletics Championships 22:12 - Aug 16 with 1499 views | Bent_double | Just finished. Very enjoyable, and GB & NI did pretty good, 2nd in the medal table. Great coverage by the BBC too. | |

| European Athletics Championships on 22:15 - Aug 16 with 1470 views | RIPbobby | Yeah it was enjoyable. There is not that much athletics on tv these days so it was really good to see. | | | |
| European Athletics Championships on 22:17 - Aug 16 with 1446 views | BluedanW | 2nd by 600ths of a second, or by 1cm. Great effort, shame the Italians were on fore this tournament. If Jacobs hadn't been injured they could have won more comfortably. They have certainly improved over the last few years. | | | |

Probably the best anchor person around, now Lineker has gone

| European Athletics Championships on 06:56 - Aug 17 with 1061 views | Chrisd | Really pleased the last few days there have been better crowds to create an atmosphere for the athletes. The first few days it was very underwhelming with the attendances. Special mention to Georgia Hunter-Bell, in the shadow of Keely Hodgkinson yet time and again over the last couple of seasons this athlete just keeps delivering. Little ego or Social Media coverage just gets the job done. Very impressive just let’s her running do the talking for her. Nearly forgot, Jazmin Sawyers recovers from a ruptured Achilles and delivers an outstanding long jump performance. I thought she was terrific too!! | |

I think the entire BBC athletics team is the best of any TV sports coverage. It is a lovely mix of expertise, enthusiasm and informality.. And I have only just found out why Denise Lewis was not there, which is a great shame. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/art [Post edited 17 Aug 9:45]

Blimey you got me worried there. I think that she'll do a good job at UK Athletics. Shame not to see her on the BBC coverage though. Greg Rutherford was good as a relative newbie. Michael Johnson stopped doing the BBC stuff because of the Grand Slam Track thing, which didn't go brilliantly, and he is missed from the TV. Georgia Hunter-Bell came across as very focused and very competitive (aren't they all?) in the interview after the 1500m final which I thought was great. Such a shame Jazmin Sawyers couldn't get to 7.00m but she was brilliant.

Amy Hunt guested on Womans Hour this morning, it'll be on Sounds shortly. Lovely, very grounded & rounded person. Many of the women who did so well had extremely serious injuries to overcome; and in the case of Hunter Bell, made an extraordinary comeback after retirement in about 2015 for 5 years.

It's a pity we lost Michael Johnson as a commentator as IMO he was the best around. Unfortunately Frew McMillan has retired from the tennis commentary box. Even in his 80s, he was still sharp as a tack & the opposite of the modern, gushing "colour commentary". Frew didn't say much, but whatever he said was on point, incisive & worth listening to.

Not forgetting Dina Asher-Smith, is that 8 or 9 gold medals in European Championships now? Not bad for a 30 year old! You have to be impressed by some of t the non-Brits too, Duplantis in pole vault never seems to get it wrong, and Ingebrigtsen coming from nowhere to win the 5000m. Commentators were great, so much better than most ex-footballers trying to put together a coherent sentence.

And Ireland did really well in terms of medals overall.
| European Athletics Championships on 14:20 - Aug 17 with 407 views | NedPlimpton | A brilliant week. Really enjoyed watching it at home as well as going along to the stadium on Friday night. The more athletics we put on terrestrial tv the more accessible it is to inspire future generations. | | | |
