Out of the bigger names, who are you letting go? 04:18 - Aug 19 with 3085 viewsJoey_Joe_Joe_Junior

Raising a few quid and saving on some wages probably would be helpful as we close the window out and are likely to get towards 200M. Whether an Argentine World Cup winner or Swiss striker comes in or not, I’m pretty convinced we’ve got a couple more sizeable fees and wages left as yet to hit the accounts for 26/27.

Mehmeti or Nunez is an interesting debate. Mehmeti had the better pre season but he has less positional flexibility and we see fairly stacked in his role now.

Also Jack Clarke, possibility of a permanent move? Boro have spent a fair bit but could they afford him after Hackney and thenRogers and Spence sell on’s? That would be an intriguing move for them or any parachute club you’d think.

The rumblings from local press is that there has been a heart to heart with Philogene who seems likely to stay, so do we really need all three there on the left? I’d imagine Maeda can cover central 10 as well if needed.

Could be the best part of 40M in sales if we looked at the below, although harder to negotiate this late. Could see at least one of them being a loan. Ruthless I know but if you think where we are now and and that we are likely to bring 2/3 more in of real quality.

- Hirst (Sale, looks almost done)
- J Taylor (inclined to try and do this once a new CM is confirmed)
- J Clarke (surprise exit for slightly over what we paid?)
- Mehmeti / Nunez (profit on Mehmeti or Nunez loan?)

I think the Ogbene’s and Humphreys of this world are more obvious ones but won’t be much of any real note in terms of in coming fees.

I'm really reluctant to see either Jaden or Clarke go tbh, they are what i'd call a Championship cheat code insurance policy should the worst case scenario happen.

Although tbf, Jaden being with us in another champ season seems unlikely.

He's a really solid defender and had a brilliant season last year - one of our 3 players of the season for me with DOS and Matu - but as others have said, his lack of pace (particularly, I think, on the turn) caught him out in the Championship and he did get away with a lot of pull backs and fouls. In the Prem, he'll get caught out even more, and won't get away with any of them with VAR.

So excellent player that he has been for us, and massive respect I have for him and the way he plays, I agree with others that he's just not suited to Prem football. Oddly, I think he might do better as a CB in the Prem, but I don't think he'll get a chance there.

I think people need to give him a bit more credit. When you're as experienced as he is, having spent his whole life around football, he's probably a reasonable judge of what he can and can't get away with by way of the dark arts, hence he largely did. I thought he towed the line well, and if the line moves in the premier league then he's savvy enough to move with it.

Maybe, I do think he's a very clever player, so if he can adapt his game a little, then brilliant.

Good work by Philogene...... GREAT WORK BY PHILOGENE!!!

I really don't see anyway we go into the season with both Clarke & Philogene. They are competing for each others minutes with Maeda likey starting.

It would be financially negligent to have one of them not playing. You also have Mehmeti who has played off the left loads.

We don't need 4 IMO.

Same with Taylor/ Nunez if Palacios comes in. We don't need 6 CMs.

I also agree with the Furlong remarks, I think when you profile him against other RBs in the league, he would be smaller, slower and technically worse ...

Replacing him would be very low priority though!

I would say Taylor could be a handy squad player (but if we get better in then fine - what interest is there in him? I would expect high-end Championship.) I would rather see Humphreys get a good loan or keep him ahead of Taylor as that squad option - I think he has far more potential and is more versatile. Also, as you state, I don't think he would raise anything like as much in funds.

I like what I have seen of Clarke in pre-season, but if Philogene is staying I could see this happening. I would happily see both stay. I think that if one goes, we would need another on the left.

Mehmeti and Nunez will be squad options only if they stay. If we are getting better in, that has to be good for the club's progress. If either (or both) stay they need to kick on from last season but they have the potential to do so.

Mehmeti can play on the left. If you add another one in, all you are doing is taking more minutes away from the player who is left as the back-up?

I wouldn't be surprised to see these leave:

Walton - More because he probably wants first team football than anything else and we have a new #1 and a long term plan for the second keeper as well as Slicker waiting in the wings.

Palmer - If Walton doesn't leave.

Mehmeti - Feels like a get over the line Championship signing more than anything.

Taylor - Too good not to play week in, week out and the Championship top end looks to be his current level.

Humphreys - Get it done, permanently. He has served us well and never complained. Go somewhere, settle and make your way to the Prem (in time, not claiming he is good enough right now).

Akpom - GON has said he's impressed. Impressed enough for third choice striker or talking up a transfer fee?

Kipre - I like him and am happy his permanent move was confirmed but if another CB becomes available for a reasonable price that we want, you have to wonder if we would listen to offers. Seems unlikely Greaves would leave.

Clarke - I want to keep him but could see Championship teams testing the water if our squad is still too large going into the final few days.

Not sure where Nunez fits in. Looked better as a 10 but surely there's far better players to play there now. Never looked as good in the 2 midfield places.

if we actually get this Argie, I'm not sure he'll ever get a game. Florentino / Matusiwa / Argie / Lukic / Taylor (ahead of him?).

Mehmeti looks an obvious one to go too.

I was hoping Taylor would stay, as a good, honest, hard-working back up option and link with the last team, but IF we get Palacios and as Outtara is said to have the versatility to make a fifth option, then I guess Taylor needs to go for himself as much as anything.

I love his 'get on with it' attitude, his steady improvement, his bite and his work rate, so I'll be a bit sad if he does go.

Great finish to the season but just not at the level for the PL.

A good question to always ask yourself is, would a promoted club be trying to sign him if we stayed down?
For the likes of Taylor it would be a no. I remember James doing a number on him at Leicester away from example.
