Utter, utter woke nonsense…. 11:36 - Aug 20 with 4308 viewsBloots

….Wolves are gonna stop playing The Liquidator pre-match from now.

It’s offensive to WBA fans.

Where does this all stop?

Modern football is rubbish.

Doesn’t really remain. The ‘where will it end’ argument is what someone like Richard Littlejohn uses when he gets angry about something.

….answer my question though does it?

If you don’t want to discuss it then that’s fine.

Right. I would understand it if the actual song contained such lyrics, but I can't help but think if fans want to shout / sing anti West Brom songs they're probably going to find a way to do it anyway.

Seems a little ridiculous to me given there's nothing offensive about the actual song in question.

On top of that, it's a fantastic ska/rocksteady choon.

Discuss what?

Edit - sorry, accidentally sent that reply off before it was completed.

That song being pulled or banned has no wider connotations or the start of some woke nonsense (or whatever phrase you used).

Norwich were the last away fans to hear it back in 2002, according to my Wolves mate.

Correct.

It's in fourth place on their honours list, just below 'We lost in Europe once' and just above 'Harry Kane played three times for us when he was 12'.

….where does the sanitisation of football stop?

Do you ban all chants that include swearing?

Do you accept them and tell the kids attending that they are gonna hear bad words?

Do you ban farting in the stands?

Do you ban abusing the ref?

Do you ban booing?

Etc, etc.

Or is it all just me trying to promote culture wars?!

On reflection Bloots, do you think an OP titled "Utter, utter woke nonesense" might be considered a tad culture warish?

But I'm with you on banning farting. Those foul Columbian marching powder emissions are pretty harsh on the pallete.

If clubs want to create a high price environment with increased corporate and tourism options, then we’re probably going in the general direction of those sorts of things. Maybe not the farting though.

Or are you making up scenarios to get upset about?

I’m in my forties and as a kid, I remember reading signs around PR stating that using abusive language could lead to being kicked-out and banned. Trying to prevent swearing at grounds isn’t anything new.

I guess the sanitation of football is heavily dependent on how you define it. Is banning fans shouting ‘get your tits out for the lads’ towards female officials or fans sanitation or simply plain decency?

Is stopping fans singing xenophobic or racist songs towards players sanitation or again, just plain decency?

....unfortunately.

I expect by the time I'm gone we'll have football stadiums that are entirely full of "neutrals" with no real skin in the game, just wallets that need emptying.

Paaarrrp!

I maintain that banning/refusing to play a piece of music at a football match because fans sing a swear word over it is "utter woke nonsense".

For clarity, I'm not trying to start "a war" whether it's over "culture" or not.

It was a discussion point.

….where does the sanitisation of football stop?

Impossibly vague question to answer. I don't agree with this one. I wouldn't agree with banning 10 German Bommbers. I would agree with banning die, die delia. I would agree with banning the Fashanu chants.

Do you ban all chants that include swearing?

No.

Do you accept them and tell the kids attending that they are gonna hear bad words?

Yes, to a point. See first answer.

Do you ban farting in the stands?

Depending on what people have eaten the night before. Permanent standium bans in some cases.

Do you ban abusing the ref?

Generally no, just a phantomine villan for fans. Players should be kept in check though. Obviously, it is all about extent. Sheff Wed threw objects at the refs, and I don't recall them getting sufficiently punished. It was unacceptable.

Do you ban booing?

no

Etc, etc.

It is clear you are doing this, or you would have said you were wrong, and not persisted with UWN sign offs. You know what you are doing. We know what you are doing.

As one well over on the left side of the spectrum, I just see "utter woke nonsense" as a jokey, almost self-deprecating handle to be honest. Certainly in this context. That's the way I read it anyway. Not anything remotely serious or to get worked up about.

And I'm discussing it with you!

In truth we're probably not poles apart on this, but I don't like the way any changes are bundled up into a "woke nonsense" coverall. I find it a lazy and inflammatory phrase.

Not sure where the line should be, but I'm sure the Fashnu song is considered disgusting by all decent people and not "woke nonsense" that we would never want to hear that vile chant ever sung again.
