This is an interesting suspension

Var changes things for prem football but for efl.. surely dives have to come into it?

Well I for one really hope we don't see Norwich finish 9th, two points behind West Brom in 8th...

Whilst I object to cheating- its a massive shift out of the blue. Massive can of worms if we are going to get retrospective for handball....

He really is a wally. He's a bit too thick to probably even be having banter about it

It sets a bit of an unnecessary precedent, it's an odd one.

Maybe it was completely deliberate and calculated, but there's also a good chance it was just a reflex that he wasn't fully in control of. If that's the case, he's effectively been banned for not going straight to the referee and admitting handball, which you can't expect players to do.

As you say, to start making calls like this when so much diving and play acting goes unpunished, is mental. What's also wrong is the fact that if a PL player did the same thing he wouldn't ever be in danger of a ban because VAR would just rule it out straight away, so Championship players are effectively being held to a harsher standard.

West Brom player banned for the handball by EastTownBlue 20 Aug 18:02
Don’t recall seeing this before. They have previously used the deception charge for dives.

Deciding if handball is an offence is such a complex decision these days involving natural hand position, the ball bouncing off parts of the body and heaven knows what else, I think it difficult for a player to 'deliberately deceive' in such a case.

Maradona's hand of god would clearly fall foul of this, given he punched the ball into the back of the net, but very few goals would be as clear as that and this one was not.

The ball goes in directly off his hand/arm. It's a handball and no goal. Accident, dodgy bounce, could he have avoided it, etc... are all irrelevant. A goal cannot be scored with a hand/arm.

The deliberately deceive is presumably because he pretended he didn't handball it. It may be normalised behaviour in sport (see diving and simulation), but i don't think he has a leg to stand on.

Plus it's funnier this way that the guilty player gets punished, but not until after Norwich get punished first!

Setting a precedent almost impossible to uphold.

Referee (and assistants) should get a ban for not seeing it. Not the other way around.
