| Minimal changes for tomorrow please... 09:41 - Aug 24 with 1238 views | BiGDonnie | I'm hoping GON doesn't change the lineup too much tomorrow. New players getting to know each other and perfect opportunity to get some good rhythm going against weaker opposition. Plus we could do well in this competition, let's not fook it up like KM liked too. [Post edited 24 Aug 9:41]

| Minimal changes for tomorrow please... on 10:52 - Aug 24 by pedrail | I'd have Mehmeti on from the start. He looked good in preseason. |
I think it'll be quite telling tomorrow whether he's selected or not. Heard on Saturday that the rumours of a departure are pretty accurate, if he's not involved tomorrow I'd say that means he's definitely off.

Makes absolutely no sense to keep him really. Well down the pecking order and someone I imagine we can at least double our money on in the space of 7 months.

Yeah. I was told on Saturday we want to loan him but with a Jan recall. Guess we hope he tears it up at a eg. Wrexham and we can hold them ransom to making it perm in Jan for 2x / 3x what we paid if their promotion hopes are riding on him. Gives us some flexibility as well if we're stinking the place out and want to keep him for Championship life. [Post edited 24 Aug 11:05]

| Minimal changes for tomorrow please... on 11:03 - Aug 24 with 159 views | rickw | I would go for : _________Walton Furlong_Diop__Kipre_Ouattara ____Florentino-Humphreys McAteer____Egeli_____Clarke __________Akpom Hopefully Florentino is fit enough to start. I'd also start Diop again ahead of O'Shea - Diop was a little rusty/nervous against Sunderland so I think extra minutes for him will help | |

| Minimal changes for tomorrow please... on 11:08 - Aug 24 with 147 views | Deano69 | I'd swap all 11, wouldn't even think about risking a player considered a starting 11 type. Regrettably, the league is the priority with a possibility of having a go at the FA Cup if we are in a good points position by then. If the second string can have a real good go at it then that's all good, but our focus has to be on the league. Compromise is to have 5 first choice on the bench to call on if needed, but I would still be reluctant unless essential. | |

| Minimal changes for tomorrow please... on 10:38 - Aug 24 by Mookamoo | I want to see Ouattara. I want to see Humpreys. I want to see Egeli at 10. Akpom, Kipre and McAteer need to show that they can challenge for minutes. |
Agreed. We should be rotating as much as possible, although there are some positions we're lacking a little at the moment (left back, midfield). I think I'd start Ouattara at left back, and have a midfield of Humphreys + Lukic. Hopefully Florentino will be back for Sunday so the pressure will be eased a little in the middle. Walton Furlong(c) Diop Kipre Ouattara Lukic Humphreys McAteer Egeli Mehmeti Akpom

Assuming Mehmeti is off, this would be my pick too (would include Mehmeti if he is staying though, possibly in place of Egeli for one half)

Maybe Mendel or Compton in for Ogbene if the later is sorting out a move.

I agree with you in spirit, I want to win the game, and if we get through we get another game for squad players to play in. But the "2nd XI" are stronger this season, it's pretty much last year's promotion team.

I think i posted on a previous thread i'd have Mehmeti in and Egeli up front, but having thought about it, we need to have Akpom getting minutes up front while he is 2nd choice striker.

We've said that our second team are strong enough to beat lower league opposition for the past 4/5 years and we never do.

In the sense that we've exited comps early? 3 promotions in 4 indicate early exits haven't hurt league performance; helped a bit imo. I'm hoping Sunderland find European footy an unwelcome commitment. You'd think Russell won't play his strongest side but even if he did, it's unlikely the test posed by Leicester will prime players well for that posed by Man Utd. I hope we bank the intensity from Saturday, recover well and go again at the weekend.

Importance of League Cup isn't the trophy. It's keeping the squad players sharp. If they play competitive football, they're more likely to deliver off the bench or when promoted to the first team when injuries/form-loss occur. Last season it was no coincidence we started slowly in the league following defeat in the first round.

O'Neil has already said Florentino won't be risked for Leicester. Without Taylor and Matusiwa it makes it a lot harder to shuffle the middle. Have another go.
| Minimal changes for tomorrow please... on 11:35 - Aug 24 with 42 views | Vic | BD - 'as KM liked to'. Really? I don;t think he liked too, but just thought he had other priorities. As for tomorrow - I suspect we'll see several changes. Personally I hope the defence and the MF link men stay the same so they build up proper understanding. But wouldn't be at all surprised to see SWE, Macca, Ackers and probably BillyGene all starting. | |
