There will be some who need wrapping up in cotton wool – I don't really want to see Enciso, Fatawu or Emersonn out there for example, certainly not from the start. Probably not Leif either given the lack of options in his position. You'd expect the front four to be changed and then perhaps two or three of the others to remain. |  |

I think back to Bromley last season (but try to forget the result). Our squad is more complete than then. Changes should be made to maintain strength across the whole team and a route back if Luis if near fitness. Potentially a last run out for players destined for late loan exits. |  | | |

They created this team at huge cost for one goal, stay in the premier. Tonight’s team will be picked with that purely in mind so could be 11 new faces or the same 11.
I would be very surprised if out key guys play, Saturday was full on and we will need all hands ready for Utd who will be well up for it after last week.

In a season like this, the only use the league cup is, is that it allows our fringe players to keep match fit.
We’re not winning the thing and we shouldn’t be aiming to unless we somehow make it to the QF/SF with our second XI. Survival is the only goal and risking injury to one of our key players in a pointless cup game would be crazy.
If we’re still in the PL in 2-3 years time then that would be the time to try and have a go at it. [Post edited 24 Aug 10:36]

It's going to be a lot of changes and rightly so IMO ..
- GON is having to keep a squad of close to 30 players happy, you have to give other players an opportunity to impress and that will benefit overall morale much more
- In the grand scheme of things, the game just does not matter. United is infinitely more important. If anyone of any significance got injured tonight that would be criminal.
- I suspect Dara will play at RCB and then we will have changes at every position.
Point of discussion is LB though ... Outarra? I had him pencilled in to start at RWB this Sunday? The U21s are playing tonight as well so unlikely to be many to choose from. | | | |

Keep the forward players fresh for OT. The way we'll get a result there is to out work them and have the legs and pace on the counter, they look vulnerable to it. Wrap Fatawu, Enciso and Maeda up in cotton wool tomorrow. Good to get minutes into McAteer, Clarke & Egeli too. GO'N has a history of a lot of rotation in this competition, I think we'll do the same tomorrow and I'm supportive.
I'm all for cup runs, I'd love us to actually have a serious one and finally get to Wembley, but this season these games have to be in service of the 38 league matches, not compromise them. We should be strong enough to win still. I think its a good time to play United, they'll react 1 of 2 ways to Hull and if its not positively we might be able to kick them while they're down. I agree with you, but O'Neil has already stated there will be changes. I think some of the more senior players definitely will be rested, especially those who have played the whole of pre-season. Would expect a few of the more recent arrivals to get a start to get minutes under their belt. Something like this:
