At war with palace and won’t sign an extension so this represents their last chance to sell. He also doesn’t want to sign for someone on a three year deal because his wages will be much higher if he moves next summer on a free.

What about a loan fee of 5 million for the season or buy him for that and offer him a one year contract.

Palace get money, Mateta gets out of the toxicity and then gets his free transfer in the summer. And we get a fantastic prem striker.

Dunno, never heard of him but give MA a bell and run it by him.

I assume he's forcing his move out of Palace because he either thinks he's capable of bigger and better, or he wants to go to Saudi for stupid money. Would be odd for him to force a move for so long only to then end up at a newly promoted side.

I'd mulled over the idea of signing him as well. I'd worry about his attitude given the way it's ending with Palace, but if we could get him and he could score us a few goals to keep us up, then why not. It would also severely weaken a possible relegation rival.

I'd snap your hand off for Mateta but don't think we would have a realistic chance of getting him, sadly

Agreed but don’t think that’s happening for him this summer now. With the knee injury concerns.

And what he actually wants is to move on a free transfer. That can only happen next summer. So the question is where do you want to play your football until then - at a club where everyone hates you or one where everyone loves you.

Not going to happen

Poll: Will Paul Lambert be Ipswich Town manager on the final day of this season ?

He won't be forcing his way out of Palace to come here unfortunately.

Might be good for us in another way though. Palace are one of the established teams we need to be looking to catch with Glasner and so much playing talent leaving in the past year.

Given the very specific set of conditions in this case, maybe.

Suspect Mateta would much rather sit on a beach for 8 months and Palace would rather pay for him to sit there. Join us and he risks a difficult season plus the association with a newly promoted PL club. Neither would be good for his next contract. If he did very well then £5m would represent terrible business for Palace, even if keeping him this summer becomes untenable at some point. He started yesterday though so they don't appear to be there just yet.

Isn't he wanting to go to Milan? At least, that was the link in January.

No mate I haven’t.

I don’t follow football outside of Town, so it’s a name I’ve never heard of.

Nice idea mate but do you really think hes forcing his way out of Crystal Palace to come to Ipswich?

Let's focus on realistic targets.

He's arguably been one of the premier league's best strikers the past couple years. I think GON will know who he is anyway..
