Light show hype! 18:45 - Sep 5 with 2765 viewsstjohnsblue

What are our feelings about the light show and music extravaganza last night?

I thought it took the momentum out of the build up and no one in my view apart from one 6yr old boy was enjoying it.

It felt like the crowd then struggled to get their levels back up for the kick off.

I’m a 45 yr old semi-grumpaholic so it may just not be for me. My daughter thought it was a pain in the Arras too though! It just seems totally pointless Americanisation of the match day and a waste of energy. We like to natter to the people around us, do the quiz and enjoy the build up.

Our fanbase are quiet though, maybe they’re just trying to get everyone going.

We did a deal with the devil. We had to. But it's the devil.

They are doing a good job. But there's nothing altruistic about it.

It's exciting to see where we go but I get the feeling that when it's become sports entertainment slop, with even more part time fair weather 'fans' treating it like the cinema, and hyped NFL type crap and all the rest of the nonsense, we will be miss watching good, honest players like Jay Tabb play football as it was recognised in the 20th century...

I’m not sure modern football is the game for you to be honest!

Your constant pop an anything American is starting to get annoying.

Many of us are long time fans that reside here have American family that support the club and spend a lot of money watching them a few times a year. Suffolk itself have deep connected routes to the US, you keep having a pop at the “yanks and their money” like it’s some kind of poison when it resurrected our club and brought joy to local community.

A bit tiresome.

Poll: Ok gut feeling then, promotion?

Stoke have had a light show years before us and owned by a British family. Light shows at football are nothing to do with Americans to be honest. Didn’t Evan’s get us half time cheerleaders for a while ffs…

Unnecessary dig at Americans tbh, with a few 6th form favourites chucked in for good measure.

See my last reply, he’s annoying.

Well said
Bloody awful, time for the pyro to go as well and the silly huddle
Let's just grow up and do the football

Also the smoke from the pyro doesn't clear before the kick-off, I know it is the same for both teams, but surely the players would rather not have hazy smoke in the air as the game is starting.

thought it was a bit naff. The novelty will soon wear off and it will just be annoying. Was not exactly hi-tec or clever either.

Do you think it's good that American private equity now owns most PL teams?

Our owners have done well. They aren't daft and the club and town desperately needed the investment.

But they aren't here out of sentiment.

And the American sports model is hostile to lots of things that are part of British football culture. Like season ticket holders.

I enjoyed it 🤣

The one they do down here at Swansea is like me in a hotel room trying to find the right light switch. It terrible in comparison. It’d didn’t kill the atmosphere where we were (but I know they can). I wouldn’t want to put up with it for every match though.

Ha. As a DJ myself I have winced at the lack of effort in the mixing of pre match medleys.

I know most people prob won't notice or care, but it bothers me!

is it a licencing thing? I complained many years ago about pre match music, and offered to do a pre match mobile disco under the North Stand! get people in ( this was around 06' time) to buy beer, get em' warmed up. I was thanked for my offer, but shunned by some Evans underling.

This is how the boys should enter the pitch - a la Virginia Tech . . .

My seat neighbour asked me as the lights were flashing ‘what do you think of all this then?’. Bl00dy hate it’ said I. Silly flashing lights, fireworks, pathetic Premier League song, cardboard arch, shaking hands with somebody you will try and get sent off five mins later, announcer shouting down a microphone: all nonsense for me.

It’s fine and all part of NFL, but it really doesn’t belong in football. It’s quite capable of creating its own atmosphere whether it’s ITFC v Liverpool or Exeter v Cheltenham.

Not for me, but then I accept I am a miserable old git..

Personally I’d prefer the German model, with fans keeping a controlling stake.

However, foreign investment has come in because the money was needed. Evan’s wasn’t some altruistic benefactor- he racked up a tonne of debt and used it to write off his own taxes. Before that we were in an even worse state near bankruptcy.

The model you seem to yearn for was unsustainable and therefore no longer exists. It’s also a rose tinted view - lack of capital saw English stadiums become death traps with various disasters, there was violence, now you can take your family in safety (just so long as you aren’t triggered by flashing lights).

not convinced it was lack of capital that encouraged clubs to construct cages, more a way to contain violence, seperate the rival fans and avoid pitch ingressions or using the pitch to get at the rival fans. Different times for sure.

I miss Jay Tabb.

It's a shame we only really see Chambers and Skuse around the club these days from that era. I know it wasn't a great period in our history but it would be nice to see players like Tabb, Anderson, Berra, Murphy, Bart etc as guests of the club to see how they're getting on. They were still an important part of keeping the club going.

Wasn’t just Hillsborough though was it - there were things like the Bradford fire and Burnden park - infrastructure was run on a shoestring. Modern investment has made stadiums much safer.

The phrase 'shunned by some Evans underling' made me laugh! 😁

Sounds like a Fall lyric!

But again a good example of the lack of imagination from Evans. There was no thought about how to create momentum or interest. I know there was no money butan offer like yours is exactly what they should have been saying yes to!

Completely agree.

After loan after loan, that team was ours again and they clearly cared. Not always the prettiest but enjoyable. Will always remember the 14/15 season fondly.

I could let him have Yasmins seat for a few games when she’s performing and can’t make it - it’s in the family area, and she’s got an under 19s season ticket… all we’d need to do is organise a booster seat.
