Probably why he was the one chosen to stay and the other go out on loan.
But that's still young by goalkeeping standards. Asmir Begovic has just said on SSN that he is "young and the improvement in decision making will come".

It's difficult to watch a performance like that and then watch Arsenal's David Raya a couple of days later owning his box and pulling off a series of world class saves.
I know he's tall, but his general mobility and positional sense seems non-existent. |

I find it nuts we loaned KVO out. I know a couple of people that watch a lot of Dutch football and they say he is the real deal. They are really surprised we seem to rate Scherpen more highly than him. Seems daft to me we have sent him out when our alternatives are two keepers we know are bang average Championship standard. We really need Scherpen to perform - hopefully he does. |
Although he is currently only bench warming which is a shame.... Saw him pre-season he did look excellent especially his distribution, but he didnt have that many 'decisions' to make and we were not playing Liverpool! | | | |

I think people also need to think back and remind themselves of David De Gea's first season in goal for Man Utd, it's not abnormal for a keeper to take time to settle into playing in a new country and with a new defence. Even a goalkeeper with a world class defence in front of him can look crap at times. Unfortunately for a goalie their mistakes are a lot more visible than a strikers mistake.
Our xG was higher than Liverpool's so you could equally blame our attack and their finishing or you could be rational and hold you hands up and say it was Liverpool, lets move on and get behind the team (including the goalie). |  | | |

You're so right. However, some of the moaners at least gave Muric a dozen or so games before turning on him. Some of the current idiots have the knives out for Scherpen after only 3 games.

Forgot about if you think he is any good, if you watch his game he kicks the same as Muric, they way he opens his body to find a pass and it may or not work I guess is the outcome. Any GK can get beat at any time, the main highlight is the kicking right now.
We as a fan base probably need to learn that being a goalie is now more about kicking than handling, which is weird yes, do I enjoy it, no.
The only solution is to go back to league one and watch someone lump it forward if this is not for you. |  | | |

He didn’t stand out as having a particularly bad game against Liverpool. Neither of the goal were his fault. The first Fatawu was dispossessed, Palacios jumped in and missed his challenge that opened up the midfield and the assist and Isak’s movement were excellent. The pace beat Sherpen.
Maybe the second he could have stayed back nearer his line. But again you’ve got Fatawu weirdly playing behind the back 4 playing Isak onside and Diop too square on in no man’s land. Greaves does well to recover and at least attempt a challenge. Possibly Sherpen was too close giving him less time to react; one for the keepers amongst us to comment. There were genuine errors beforehand though. [Post edited 10 Sep 23:13]

I agree with all of that. I fear we’re going to have a long season where players and/or teams are often going to be too good for us. Isak’s finish for his first was top class. His intelligent movement, take and then the speed at which he took the shot and the power of the shot itself were all excellent. That’s what money get you I suppose. A draw would be a very good result. Palace will start as favourites. Same with Everton the following weekend. People need to remember that if we happen to lose both games.
As others have said, it's our home form that will largely determine how we fare this season, particularly against other sides that are expected to be in the bottom half of the table. | | | |
