There’s a good keeper in there somewhere 20:32 - Sep 12 with 1372 viewsThatMuhrenCross

I know it’s been a bit of a wobbly start from Scherpen, but I can see something… there’s definitely a keeper in there. I like him on crosses, and he make some decent stops. I feel like if he could just tidy up his decision making and distribution by 5-10% we’ve got a decent keeper…

Walton looks good for a top level champ side with less to do, he’s no way near good enough to be a Premier League starter, even if our fanbase think he is. When under pressure last year away at places like Sheffield United and Wrexham he was poor. No slight on him, he’s decent, in the league below.

Most promoted clubs seem to be able to find a PL level one in Europe, for whatever reason we seem to struggle.

Poll: Ok gut feeling then, promotion?

Before today Sherpen had made the mistake of saves in the Premier League (13)
I’m a bit shocked to see people blaming him for the goals today, I thought VS Liverpool he very much could have done better with both, but today, I’m not sure the sane criticism can be levelled with him.

I can see a vocal minority are going to be getting on his back at any opportunity, which is pathetic, especially after what we had to endure last time in the premier league with Aro Muric- Sherpen is already a significant improvement on that, but last season he was playing in Belgium. He’s played 4 games in England, let’s give him a fair chance before we start writing him off, lads…

Yup, from what I’ve seen I can’t believe he’s been given any blame for those goals today.

Let’s get behind him, he’ll come good.

There is no dressing up that when you combine the kicking and decision making it was a very shaky performance. No way I’m making a change this early before the INT break though, see how he is in two games time.

Brutal but neither appear good enough for this league.

I know that was then, but it could be again..

All I’ve seen from today games are the Sky highlights so not much to go off.

We need to avoid another Muric situation within the fanbase.

In fairness, Muric was absolute pap- a real disservice to compare him to Sherpen, who is already streets better than Aro.

Already happening I fear. Some right divs in the away end today making stupid comments and going off what you read online it seems some are determined to blame him for every goal we concede.

I think he was a bit slow to get down for both goals and flapped a few time but think he just needs to get up to speed in the Prem..... like outfield players do.

Dare I say it...Scherpen is actually TOO tall to be a top goalkeeper.

There's a reason why there are no other 6'9" goalkeepers (apart from natural height percentile distribution). Once you get above a certain height you literally can't get down fast enough to keep out the top strikes in this league, the shots are hit with so much power and accuracy. And if you do get down, there's lower chance you can get up again for a rebound!

You look at the best goalkeepers of all time. Most are 6'4 or under - with exception of Courtois maybe but he's 'only' 6'6.

What a load of drivel. If you’re comparing 3-4 games from each they both made mistakes for goals against but arguably Muric won us a point on his own at Brighton.

So you can’t say he’s streets ahead to where Muric was after a few games.

I think that was evident on both goals today tbh. Neither look like errors and they won’t go down as such but there are PL keepers that save them.

I think the second one was just an excellent finish

Even with the deflection for the first one, i don't think he got his footwork correct.

As you say, not errors as such. Things to work on.

I might be in the other minority in that I'm not really bothered by the mistakes, which I think he'll sort out, but I think we're in a real trouble if his shot stopping stays at this level.

You need your goalkeeper to be very difficult to beat from the kind of distances/angles that Palace (and Liverpool!) score from or you're going to concede a lot of goals (which we are).

Neither passed the fabled “sight” test for me yesterday. Just didn’t expect the ball to end up in the net once the attacker took the shot.

However, if you want to mitigate, one took a Knick and the other came through Diop’s legs. Neither found the side netting though.

Still early days but when you compare him to the Greek bloke at Hull then looks for now like they’ve done better than us on the new GK front - albeit he cost more.

Would be lovely to see Scherpen have a motm next week in a scrappy 1-0!

Scherpen is pants compared to Walton and anyone who can't see that is an idiot. He's new, there is nothing to show he is good enough except his performances and he's been poor, especially in decision making coming off his line.

Walton was a proven keeper. If Sherpen deserves "time to adjust" then so does Walton. He's a loyal keeper and last year was immense. He deserves better to be benched for some unknown quantity who has had 3 games and shown himself to be a little bit dodgy.

After 3 chances, and 10 goals conceded in 4 games, Walton needs to come back.

From what i saw on the highlights, he didn't seem to stretch to his full potential on the opening goal.
