Shame he hasn’t made a stand in support of his friend Macklemore.

Macklemore dropped from Ed Sheeran tour after 'Free Palestine' speech https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/art

Dolly was the quite literal antithesis to Sheeran, she didn’t want to hoard millions upon millions and went far and beyond the regular charitable affairs that are good for public relations but essentially tax benefits. A gem of a woman who stood up for what she believed in and had strong principles and values.

What - she was worth about half a billion dollars 🤣

Ed isn’t some tax exile he’s one of the UK’s top tax contributors:

Sheeran has put more into this club than many people, including you and me, ever did.

Are you accusing him of plagiarism? I presume not as I understand it he has never been convicted of it or copyright infringement in a criminal or civil court. If you believe and have evidence to the contrary, I’m sure the public media would be very interested. Take him on!!

As for his music, it’s a matter of personal taste. It’s not for me, but I have seen him play live 14 years ago and he is good at what he does. For me it sits in the Taylor Swift unmemorable category, but however enraged you are, he is a highly successful a singer songwriter. Conceited? Have you met him? To say that I presume you have. What’s he like? As for his image, of course he has one. All artists do. In fact all people do.

I doubt he’s ‘strong armed’ himself anywhere. If big organisations want him, that’s because it’s a business opportunity for them. It’s no difference to the buying of ITFC in 2021. They had never heard of the place but saw an opportunity in an area they were keen to exploit.

Cowardly little gimp? Why don’t you seek him out and tell him to his face? He attends football matches sometimes. Give it a go. Or is it easier to bash that keyboard with spit flying fury?

Who he chooses to have on his tour is his own affair. Personally, the guy who put him in this position shouldn’t have done it. If he was going to make a political statement he should have had the curtesy to ask Sheeran first. He literally put Sheeran in a damned if you do, damned if you don’t position.

Of course Sheeran has his views. Don’t know the bloke, don’t wish to know or care whether is pro Palestinian, Israeli, Satanist, vegan or Romulan.

Musicians should stick to music. There’s a way to avoid politics if you are a public person as Dolly Parton amply demonstrated. Same applies to footballers sticking to football, football club running to just that. There’s no place for politics in them. There’s enough room elsewhere in this world for that. In fact too much of it, not least because it gives the Trumps of this world the oxygen they crave.

Sorry to jump in, but Dolly is a really poor example. She publicly and vocally stood up for numerous movements and politics, and used her platform and voice for the good.

For what it's worth, I think it's pretty poor form from Ed. Coming from the local music scene from the same time as him, I don't have the same level of anger towards him that Libero does, but I know that he did fabricate his 'origin' story quite a bit - however, that isn't uncommon when PR teams are building a 'brand'.

Thanks for highlighting that it comes across as ‘anger’ that’s just a communicative issue on my part - there’s zero anger, just disdain and a lack of respect for the man and his methods.

You are right constructing a narrative is common, I work with PR agencies and companies everyday in my role(s) in media now- but the way Sheeran has done it, absolutely isn’t common and is vastly more disingenous and cynical, from what I’ve observed at least.

Hope you’re keeping well, haven’t seen you on here for a while!

I assume there will be an anti Sheeran protest before the Arsenal game tonight by the statue of Sir Alf?

Why would there be?

Why should he?

Maybe he doesn't support his friends view.
Maybe he's annoyed his friend has piggybacked on his tour to push his view.
Maybe he doesn't think/care about the conflict. Not everybody does, not everybody has to make that conflict part of their personality.

I know those that do support it seem to think everyone should care, but they don't. Everyone has their own feelings, cares, and issues in life.

But seriously, I'm not offended that you care about it, why be offended if others don't?

FWIW, on a daily basis i have to think about my family, kids, their education, their diets, their after schooling activities, sort my household budget, keep the house and garden in good condition, fix things that break, build new things to make it look nice.

I have zero time to put what is happening miles away in the forefront of my mind.

People aren't wrong for not caring, incredibly arrogant to think we should all care because you do.

I’m not “offended”

I also have to do all those things and more, as I’m father to a disabled 7 year old and two teenagers who were placed with us by social services under kinship care.

You’re allowed to not care, I’m allowed to judge you for not caring.

Offended/angry/judgmental.... it's what you lot do when peoples thoughts don't align with your own. Is what it is though.

Judge away.... But as we'll never meet, and we are merely names on an internet forum forgive me for not being particularly bothered.

As pathetic as saying you don’t have capacity to care about the deaths of thousands of innocent children, because you have to do the gardening and tidy up? Or a different kind of pathetic?

I was referring to the left when I say "you lot". Politically I'm homeless, but have always found the left to be aggressive/judgmental. But that's only my opinion, so means very little.

Anyway, full respect to the other situations you mention. Can't be easy, so hats off to for that.

What did he fabricate from his origin story? I hadn't heard that. I do remember seeing him supporting the Waxing Captors at the venue that used to be above McGinty's (Blue Room?). Never considered he'd end up being one of the biggest artists on the planet.

People are allowed to be overwhelmed by their own lives and step back from global tragedies without being morally judged for it.
