Sorry I can't find a link that'll embed here, but the Guardian also cover it here:
https://www.theguardian.com/music/2026/sep/14/macklemore-dropped-ed-sheeran-tour-free-palestine
The gist of it is thus:
Macklemore was touring with Ed Sheeran, and spoke out at the Metlife stadium in support of Palestine. Since then, Ed has been forced (or chosen, depending on your stance) to remove him from the tour, after a number of US stadium owners refused to allow the tour to visit if Macklemore was on the bill.
Nothing hateful, nothing anti-semitic, just the mere act of saying 'Free Palestine' on a stage in front of 90,000 people.

He gets his mates to join him on a big tour, only for that guy to drop you the middle of hugely public ethical dilemma. I'd feel played with and manipulated if I were Ed.

Wow. Better to placate the genocide deniers whilst thousands die, than speak up. Yeah poor Ed

Either you're pro-genocide or anti-genocide, and a shame he's made the wrong decision. Oh well - loved him for his support for the club, but was never a fan of his music. Just hope he doesn't drag us into the fray.

Dumb comment. The only actual cancellation would have been from Robert Kraft if Ed had made the right choice. Public opinion turning against someone is not 'cancelling ' - it's public opinion turning against him. And turns out Robert Kraft is a real POS - very dodgy past, with some serious charges dropped - which, as we should know by now, being a billionaire with ties to Epstein makes you immune, guilty or innocent. And is a $3m donor to AIPAC. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Public pile-on / backlash / cancelled... whichever terminology you prefer. He's quite clearly chosen not to pick a side. That's his prerogative. My point is that these things inevitably get turned into 'you're either with us or against us', when not everyone wants to plant their flag on one side or the other. He couldn't win here, whatever he did.

I was talking very specifically and clearly about friendship. However, why does it actually matter what Sheeran or Macclemore say about Palestine and what difference would it make to the Israeli government' policy?

Nonsense. While he was unfortunate enough to end up in a position where he had to choose a side, he chose the wrong one. But he has made a choice.

This is kind of my point. You've decided he had to pick a side and that he picked the wrong one. I don't see it in such absolute terms, but we're clearly not going to agree. I bid you a good day.

Absolutely, you can, and he has. Many frame it simply as pro-genocide - not a good look for someone in his chosen profession, and imo, the completely wrong choice morally.
| Ed Sheeran on 08:06 - Sep 15 with 6321 views | Devereuxxx | From what i've heard, it was the future venues and sponsors who were threatening to pull out of the rest of the tour. Given the potential for cancelled shows, disappointed fans, lack of earnings etc, sounds like they were backed into a corner. It is disappointing that a singer can't even show solidarity with the killing of thousands without it being turned into a spectacle. But, seems to be the way the world is now. Everything is binary - you're either on one side or the other, with no space for critical thinking or respect for opposite thought. | | | |

Robert Kraft? https://www.nbcnews.com/pop-cu When the next stadium on your tour is owned by someone with a particular close friend, probably not a good idea to have anyone on the bill speaking up for Palestine...

| Ed Sheeran on 08:24 - Sep 15 with 6190 views | Libero | Not to go all Rommers VS Declan Rice, but… When Wiley called Ed a ‘culture vulture’ in 2019, he was right. Ed has *always* been hyper focused on himself and his bank balance, diluting and regurgitating other people’s culture and work, and carefully crafting a PR image that presents him as an ‘every man’ or ‘just an ordinary bloke’ that is essentially built off the back of him not being conventionally attractive or how people think a pop star would/should look. Over the last two decades he’s entered various communities/cultures/social groups- stripping out what he thinks is monetisable, diluting it, reappropriating and repackaging it alongside a carefully constructed narrative, all designed to help him be as broad as possible and sell as much turgid bland flavourless guff as possible to as many people as possible. He has repeatedly strong armed himself into various media giants/franchises, under the guise of the “I’m just a massive fan” every guy persona, to get his name and face and music to an almost ubiquitous presence. Lego, Star Wars, Game of Thrones, The Hobbit, Pokémon, all kinds of franchises, events, areas he has no right in being such a presence in, but that are/were some of the biggest properties in the world. No one ever asks why it’s just Sheeran who cynically systemically and repeatedly self inserts himself into pop culture on repeat, or the value it brings him to align with these Goliaths and/or include it in his carefully constructed public narrative, etc. He’s a very conceited man and always has been. Personally, I can’t stand the way he uses our club as an extension of his PR machine- and while I do appreciate that him using us in this way brings in millions upon millions for the club, some things are more important than money. He isn’t ‘apolitical’ he just thought people were stupid enough to accept that as a reasoning for passively siding with genocide. Ed has enough money and power to strong arm the venues and those around him to keep Macklemore on the tour, he’s just more concerned with his bank balance and the ‘hurt’ he mentions, than 3 years of countless slaughtered innocent children. What a cowardly little gimp Sheeran is. Hiding behind excuses - I always knew he was extraordinarily conceited and self interested, but this is a new low. I guess the only positive in all of this is that it absolutely dismantles him cosplaying as an Irishman anymore- one of his many PR constructs. [Post edited 15 Sep 8:27]

If Sheeran had wanted to push on with Macklemore regardless, he would have - he has the power and money to do so - his inactivity has passively revealed where his priorities are and as such, he’s quite rightly recieving a backlash.

Macklemore is very forthright about his views. He had a hit with a pro-Palestine song in 2024 which he was obviously going to do on stage. Good chance these ultra-right wing billionaires would have objected even to him even if he'd said nothing. It was never going to be a viable position for Ed to contract Macklemore to do these shows and not have this come up. Once you've got him on the bill, all you are left with is standing up for his free expression/free speech and keeping your integrity or giving in because it'll cost you money (like he doesn't already have plenty).

His chosen profession? He’s a singer, not a politician. Poor taste to call him pro-genocide, Kneecap actively waved a Hezbollah flag on stage (who committed various massacres against Syrian Civilians) and were praised by many on here. Mad world. Pretty sure like Ashton-gate, this will all blow over fairly quickly, Sheeran has done nothing wrong, and unlike the noise of SM most people are actually not that politically engaged. Those in the wrong are the ones trying to shut down any support of Palestine, not people just looking to sing a few songs. I’ve not seen Ham use his platform for adding a pro-Palestine voice, maybe we should shut down TWTD. Or maybe like most people he’s just doing his job… [Post edited 15 Sep 8:49]
