There’s not a single player that started for their ‘reserves’ that wouldn’t go for more than our record signing and we were also playing our reserves. The likes of Kipre and Mehmeti and McAteer and Akpom. Players that didn’t make much of an impact at Championship level.
Personally thought it was a decent effort. Flemming was superb. Ouattara really good. Luis decent.
A decent result. Lots of positives. They are arguably the best side in the world right now and everyone of those players is a big part of that.
Really feel like with our first team we’d have possibly got something. No team has scored two against them since Man City in April.

We won the last 30 minutes 2-0, andthat was after they had brought on Odegaard, Tzolis and Konsa. If we had played for another 30 mins we would have taken them to pens  |  | | |

You wouldn't get half of Dowman for that. But yeah, point remains they've got ridiculous depth. I made the point yesterday that Arsenal and us rotating is a net negative for us, given the depth they have. It increases the disparity rather than decreases it when we do the same. If we had those players you listed they would literally all start in our 1st XI.
We're not going to go up, spend £8m on a keeper, a couple from Fulham, Strasbourg and Burnley and find ourselves going toe to toe with Arsenal. Its even less likely when a lot are rested and we've got half of a Championship side out there.

Yep.
It was still useful to see some of our players against that quality in a match that doesn't really matter. You probably get more from it than going out on pens to Bromley!

The interesting thing for me was that Arteta had a backbone of regular first team players (or at least squad members) that he rotated to keep that nucleus throughout.
What was even more impressive, though, was how effective they were at pressing and playing as a unit. My son pointed out how they would train together against the most effective press there is so that would help too. Our press was disjointed and, although we played more as a team than we usually do when making that level of changes, we were far from fluent. Lots of individuals doing good things but a lack of linking up together.
I was also pleased for Akpom who did what he does. Give him service and he will score goals. I think he could be a useful third option up front when we need him and could end up scoring a crucial goal or two for us. |  |

I agree with you in terms of the result but it is an excellent point about squad depth when you compare it to ourselves.
Even with the work we have done in the market, we have a lot to do to become an established Prem side. If we manage to stay up, next summer could be really exciting in gauging where the owners want us to go.
There is probably a lot of players to move on but I guess we will also have to be mindful of the home grown rules as well. |  | | |

I was only half watching the game last night as I had work to do, and I don't pay too much attention to performances in this competition, but they're incredibly impressive off the ball. They sprint back and get in their positions so quickly, and they press so well. They obviously have a lot of talent, but they work harder and are better organised than most teams. Every single player does their job off the ball. | | | |
