That was mostly Palmer, not Walton. Walton was injured and played only a few weeks in 2024/5.

| TEAM on 14:10 - Sep 19 by Ryorry | Your username's a bit ironic here, given that you don't! Nor does anyone else. Maybe Scherps has had an illness & isn't back to full strength, so it's preferable for him to not have a whole 90+ minutes. I do think we should recall our Van in Jan though (still not getting any minutes on loan afaik. |
If he’s had an illness and not back to full strength then why make him travel all the way up the country when you could just stick Palmer on the bench?

Yeah. This exactly. Scherpen dominated the box when Palace were chucking in crosses towards the end of the match last week.

| TEAM on 14:11 - Sep 19 by FrimleyBlue | If not 100% it should be palmer on bench no? If walton goes off injured inside a minute weve got a keeper who isnt 100% |
I may not have explained it well; what I meant was Scherps might be short of energy after an illness, but fit enough to cover if he has to. And it's not as if he's had to get to the NW on foot is it?! (sorry, this last comment was for GaryKnows, had mistakenly thought it was you who made it). [Post edited 19 Sep 14:20]

Since when has Walton been weak on crosses/set pieces?

Because the whole side got worse not the keeper the damage was already done.

And was hardly quality when he did play. Palmer wasn't much of an upgrade either, admittedly. It's tough. I don't think now is the right time to drop Scherpen. If he's not 100% then it's a gamble to have him on the bench as, if things go wrong he may be called upon early on. If he's fine but has been replaced his confidence is going to sink, when we may still have to call on him further down the line. I'd understand if Walton was clearly the better keeper but don't think that is the case.

| TEAM on 14:13 - Sep 19 by FrimleyBlue | So what then Walton comes in has a shocker Youve ruined ones confidence in the process of finding out the other isnt an upgrade. |
Well, we'll just have to see if he has a shocker, it's a squad game, if you're not quite on it then like any other position you'll be changed, it's not saying you'll never be back in favour, look how well Walton took his chance last season for example, having been out of favour for Palmer, I actually think Walton is better with his feet now, a big part of the game, they all make mistakes, some get punished some don't, we'll see Frimmers..

Maybe the home teams set up different.

| TEAM on 14:48 - Sep 19 with 380 views | Adams | I'm surprised he's been dropped, but we haven't seen what has gone on behind the scenes and who's looked better in training. There might be things we don't know. I am lightly nervous about how Walton will do. Happy with the team otherwise. Our bench is looking strong! | | | |

| TEAM on 14:05 - Sep 19 by OldFootball | No surprise though. He's had a shocker so far this season. A few people have tried to pretend that there's nothing to see, but he let a lot of goals in where you think 'hmmm...should have saved that'. Especially for an expensive keeper. This could be Sereni all over again, but hopefully he gets better. |
Sereni was a good keeper and player of the month early doors that season

And they were such a disastrous few weeks we turned to Palmer almost immediately. Walton has never been fancied by the club at PL level. We have replaced him every single chance we have had. If Scherpen isn't injured, it really is a ridiculous decision to bring Walton in. He is weak all the areas we need a keeper to be strong in, in the PL.

| TEAM on 14:08 - Sep 19 by pointofblue | And what do we do when Walton is exposed for what he is - a decent to good Championship keeper but little more. Switch to Palmer? You give someone more than a handful of games to adjust to a new, tougher, league. [Post edited 19 Sep 14:16]

I'm not saying Walton's much better, but the change is unsurprising considering Scherpel's performances so far.
