Whilst that is true, they do have a very good midfield with real strength in depth. England did very well to live with them for as long as they did but even that required plenty of help from the Spanish defence.

Got to completely disagree, that was a terrific game to watch and England and Spain put on a really good game. England aren't quite on Spain’s level, but they aren’t far off. If that was the World Cup Final that would have been a fitting game to conclude the tournament. England continue to play like that, there won’t be too many complaining just need to cut out the mistakes at key times. Credit to Spain, there’s no doubt they are the best side internationally at this moment in time. | |

Not sure about that, we turned it round when we were really under the cosh and up to Kane's penalty looked like we were going to overwhelm them. Spain had the talent to turn it round, their subs made a much bigger difference than ours but we could have still have pulled it back to 3-3 with a bit more guile at the end. | | | |

Bear in mind my OP was after 25 minutes when Spain should have been 4-0 up.
Yes, England did do well from there until Spain took control again when they made it 2-2.
I was impressed there was less between the teams than initially appeared but Spain are still clearly a better side except for in the striker department. [Post edited 26 Sep 22:02]

That's the issue. For all the praise, only Bellingham, Kane and, on current form, Gordon are good enough to achieve the aim of winning the World Cup. They're the only ones who would have even a chance of making the Spanish first XI. The rest would be lucky to make the bench. How Spain have managed to pull so far clear should shine a spotlight on the English academy set up and coaching. | |
