I don't want to be a Negative Norman, but I did think the atmosphere on saturday was surprisingly bad given the drought of football in the preceding weeks. It felt like we were weren't fussed given that Fulham are a 'small' team. Was just a bit surprised.

Great limbs against Sunderland and Fulham but our home atmosphere sounds absolutely awful on TV!
Is the NS alive during the actual 90 minutes? What happened to that stand?
Most games on TV sound dead. The audio feed must be set so it doesn’t capture the full noise from the stands and amplifies the commentators instead. (And this is for games with actual commentators on the gantry like they’re supposed to be. The EFL bloke in his home office audio games are awful to listen to.)

The North Stand is alive and loud at every home game, just like us in Block A.
TV broadcasters only “mic up” the away fans’ enclosure (“in the interest of balance”). You seldom hear any home fans during a televised match.
For whatever acoustic reason, the sound does not travel well. I am at the North end of the Westa Stand and it rarely sounds alive and loud. Fulham fans were pretty terrible.

There wasn't a lot really happening in the game so the crowd naturally went a bit quiet, then livened up at the end when more action started happening.
Happens at every game and every ground in the country.
Just because I don't care doesn't mean I don't understand.

I disagree that's the case you can see there isn't much noise generated and people are standing there fairly static. Not having a pop just saying how I see it. You can just hear some muffled A block drumming mainly. The games I always go to over the festive periods have also been pretty quiet.
Even Chelsea win, Woolfy was trying to get the NS going after their disallowed goal. Back twenty years ago that result would have been deafening with "Small club from London" and all that sort of stuff.
I think to be honest we are a pretty reactive crowd and aging fanbase. Just my two cents.

I usually go in hospitality up the NS end when I am back and it's pretty quiet.
Maybe that's across the country these days though outside of a few places.

The noise came through loud and clear on TV after we went 2-1 up, a chorus of 'We're the finest football team...'.
As others say, up until that point it was as if the ground had been on mute.

Exactly so it's not a mic issue, it's just a quiet stadium until something happens, which honestly at this level and giving our start to the season, is disappointing. I guess we will never be a Leeds or Sunderland but could do with a little more.
Yep, it was terrible up until we scored the first. Our atmosphere is a myth at times.
But it shows what can be done given how load it was when we equalised and then even more so for the winner, appreciate on the pitch events play a part as well but it’s poor form from a near 30k ground to not make any effort for long periods.

Where I sit in SBRU block 1 hardly anyone gets involved with any of the singing, not even clapping along, lazy really.
I always appreciate not everyone wants to join in but more people should than shouldn’t, the atmosphere could be amazing around the whole ground but it just isn’t the majority of the time.

Yeah, I have never brought the acoustics thing of since the redevelopment 20+ years ago. I am old enough to remember WHU in the playoffs!

We always sound good on the road though.
Is that the same Sunderland that jeered their team off the pitch the other day, or at least the few thousand that hadn’t left about 10 minutes before time.

First half was like a school chess match...not a lot going on with a plethora of wrong moves. Not a great deal to spark the crowd. When things took off in the second half so did the crowd.

I think our home atmosphere has been pretty poor for a while now. Last season was bad to the point even KM called it out.
As you say, I look around me where I stand and the overwhelming majority of people are there in silence arms folded. Obviously everyone is entitled to support how they want, they pay their money. I just think its a shame that even in "vocal sections" there isn't that much atmosphere being created

Yeah, it was flat on and off the pitch on Saturday. I thought that even before Fulham scored we needed a goal to give everyone a bit of belief. It's an old truism but goals change games and that applies off the pitch as much as on it.
I've been in the NS Lower S5 for 14 years now, and the ground atmosphere has always been reactive at PR and we'll never be that fanbase that relentlessly makes noise for 90mins, and that's OK... sometimes it's better when the atmosphere is reactive and gets going, especially like after our first goal, we pushed them on quite considerably to get the 2nd goal. First half Saturday was a bit flat which was reflected in the atmosphere by both fanbases.
One overall issue with atmosphere is that BA decided to move into the Cobbold which is an awful stand to have an ultra section, they should have just stayed in the NS Lower, kept all the singers in one section and it would be louder. By seperating, we now often have two different songs going at once and things don't spread as well. The other issue BA have is that they bang their drum to some random tune no one has ever heard of - atmosphere is not just noise, it's got to be relevant to what's happening on the pitch.
PR sounds the best when songs spread across the NS, that will never be any different. Other stands and fans are welcome to join in btw, it needs to spread to other stands and when it occasionally does (Oh when the Town seems to do that), PR sounds great.

Bit of background (not background noise though) on commentators' mics here:

We definitely had the better of the endgame though...
