| Ipswich losing out on city of culture 08:44 - Oct 22 with 8370 views | Mullet | https://www.ipswich.co.uk/ipsw Given the club are now in the Prem (for however long that might be) how do you locals feel about missing out? It’s a great way to boost the coffers and local economy and seems a bitter blow for the town and Suffolk generally. Ashton being praised and then blamed here doesn’t reflect well either does it? | |

| Ipswich losing out on city of culture on 09:26 - Oct 27 by Blue_Heath | People used to say that about Colchester when I lived there and I never had any issues, I think most towns have a 'reputation' which is largely unfounded for the most part. |
Colchester used to have a bad reputation as it is a Garrison Town. I remember as a kid the pubs the soldiers would use,and if you wanted a punch up you would go in them. Heaven help you if the Military Police got hold of you before the Town Rozzers! Then there were the ‘Squady Bashers’ for the girls who liked a man in uniform .. [Post edited 27 Oct 10:00]

That pretty much aligns with what I was told although tbh I never had any issues. I really don't want Ipswich to be known as a City though, it's a town!

I did but not through fighting but being on MOD land. I agree Ipswich is a Town as is Colcheter, the sign as you entered the Town used to say ‘Britains oldest recorded Town’. [Post edited 27 Oct 16:01]

Yes since the Colchester sign is bordering on Suffolk territory from Sudbury way despite the fact it's several miles from Colchester!

| Ipswich losing out on city of culture on 14:46 - Oct 23 by bournemouthblue | Is Norwich a Unitary Authority or a Two Tier system like in Ipswich A lot of Ipswich problems stem from having Suffolk County Council and satelite councils like Babergh and East Suffolk screwing it over |
Norfolk is two-tier, the same as Suffolk and each have different responsibilities

Politics seems to have been friendlier to Norwich, things seemed to be better geared towards Norwich succeeding, it's more of a regional centre than Ipswich. Perhaps Geography is friendlier to it was well, it's central to Norfolk's economy. Having the UEA and regional media there must help, they have managed to get most of their Northern relief road being built, we are probably another 10 - 15 years away from getting our bypass built

Very poor journalism to go for engagement then give the context at the bottom in scant detail. New offences are a huge factor alongside population growth. As someone who teaches about crime statistics it’s very frustrating how the media misuse them as often as possible. But it does illustrate the perception vs reality debate from a few days ago in the thread nicely.
