Brazil election - Trump’s team playing out the rehearsal for the mid-terms 06:16 - Oct 26 with 2457 viewsElderGrizzly

Or is it Bolsonaro playing out the greatest hits from Jan 6th?

Given Trump’s DoJ moves over the Alaska mid-terms already, I think we have a taste of what Nov 3rd is going to bring in ‘not recognising’ a result.

I was convinced that Bolsonaro had that after edging the first round, maybe the 2 hour extension helped Lula more than him, who knows - but according to my Brazilian girlfriend, Bolsonaro was the one who requested it.

No doubt Bolsonaro (and Trump) will make lots of noise about it being a stolen election, but with Lula's winning margin over 4m votes it's hard to believe that the result would have gone the other way.

The most detailed analysis I’ve seen of this says it affected about 35,000 votes, so no, in a four million margin it’s immaterial.

That's a shame, as Liz Truss is now free after the launch of her well-received, balanced, and rational book assessing her time in office.

Was given 0 out of 5 stars in the Telegraph today, of all places.

I joked on another thread about the book making a good stocking-filler and Simon Heffer takes up this theme in the last paragraph of his review.

"Of all the books I have ever reviewed that purported to offer a serious thesis, this is without question the most deranged. If you are seeking a Christmas present for someone you really don’t like, give them a copy."

The irony is that the Telegraph supported Truss and her Budget to the hilt at the time.

EDIT: I've even come across a puff-piece by Heffer himself in the Telegraph written a few days before Truss became PM.

FURTHER EDIT: Who on here follows Allister Heath's every word?

“This was the best budget I have ever heard a chancellor deliver, by a massive margin,” wrote Allister Heath on the front page of the Daily Telegraph the day after Kwasi Kwarteng had outlined his plans for Britain’s fiscal future on 23 September.

“The tax cuts were so huge and bold, the language so extraordinary, that at times I had to pinch myself to make sure I wasn’t dreaming.”

Jesus! How did Lula win that?? Not been following the news but him winning looked improbable after the first round. What a story, he's really the king of the comebacks!

Interesting thread on this from Tim Vickery.

Taking aside the fact that Trump is a poor loser, claims the election was stolen when it wasn’t, and will try every dirty trick in the book to keep the GOP in power, the Brazilian elections stunk of corruption.

Would be interested in what you're inferring here, surprised nobody asked.
