It's almost as if we see yet another British institution turns out to be venal corrupt and incompetent.

In the spirit of reconciliation and happiness at the end of the Banter Era (RIP) and as a result of promotion I have cleared out my ignore list. Look forwards to reading your posts!

It's not as if those Amazon shares are held personally by Welby, if anything he has highlighted two or three wrong things in his speech and a couple of them he can have an influence on. I'm no fan of organised religion but if we concentrated on the bigger picture and left the sniping to the gutter press (and then ignored them) we would all be a lot better off.

The problem is that CoE has already indicated that it will use it's investment portfolio to raise specific issues (e.g. shift away from fossil fuel companies seen as slow to react to global warming). It's inconsistency is therefore valid comment.

They’re big on shopping centres apparently. Because nothing says Jesus better than a bit of rampant consumerism.

So what's the dialectical direction, then? Are they getting it right or wrong? And are they help or hindrance to us secular types?

That's a difficult one and I don't have an answer.

I could i suppose refer to the previous hullabaloo over their investments in arms trade firms. That led them to be more active in campaigning against the arms trade. Perhaps there is additional joy from these stories? That it's their original invisible hand of self interest behind the 'whoops' moment gives the calls for ethical action more impetus.

Yeah and nothing says Jesus better than building on green belt land owned by the local Diocese.

It's a not-for-profit organisation, so it doesn't have to pay corporation tax.

I saw a lot of people getting angry about the tax issue on Twitter but I don't understand why.

A good point is raised, but at the end of the day this is nothing more than Amazon and the Tories trying to divert the attention away from them.

All of a sudden nobody is focusing on the bigger issue of Amazon paying minimal tax, and the Tories allowing them to do so.
