There has been a vote of No confidence.... 19:33 - Jan 16 with 3396 viewsMarshalls_Mullet

.....and its no confidence in Corbyn.

Corbyn must be so embarrassed, the Conservatives are seen as one of the worst administrations of all time...

....and Corbyn didnt get close to winning the general election, and MP's still see May as a better option.

Jeremy... hang your head in shame. One of the worst performing party leaders of all time.

This country needs a strong opposition.

Time for a leadership change in Labour?!

Is it really that shocking that Conservatives and the DUP prefer Theresa May over Corbyn?

If there was a viable, strong, charismatic opposition leader, perhaps he could have swayed the DUP and won.

Hardly. As things stand, the DUP have far more leverage than they could possibly dream of in almost any other scenario. Preventing a GE is their utmost aim.

Really does make Corbyns perfromance at the last GE look even worse now (if possible).

Corbyn is to labour what Paul Hurst was to Ipswich. ;-)

A dreadful campaign by the Conservatives and he still couldn't get it over the line.

However, much of that is not Corbyn's fault, but Milliband's. Labour's walking back on the "Solemn Pledge" for Scottish Devo Max (in the face of it being linked by the Tories with English Votes For English Laws) created a sense of betrayal leading to the loss of a large and vital tranche of seats north of the border.

Ever since, it has required an almighty swing in their favour for Labour to stand any hope of winning a GE, on pure mathematics. They need to take way beyond just marginal seats from the Conservatives to gain a HoC majority in their own right.

Given the DUP's place on the political spectrum, it seems unlikely that Labour would ever be able to persuade them that they would be a better government than the Tories.

Doesn't work like that. Last night was a defeat for the government on a major item of policy. Tonight was a victory over a routine challenge.

Do you think Labour would have won this no confidence vote with a different leader?

Seems fairly obvious that they wouldn’t.

Most pundits weren't predicting anything like this result so it's a vote against May. No one predicted Labour winning the vote tonight and now you're declaring it a massive shambles?

Those were pretty much exactly the numbers

The Ulster Unionists have a history of propping up minority Labour governments. They are a "working class" party.

Both Gordon Brown and Ed Miliband attempted to enter talks with the DUP before seeing that then numbers were still not there to form a broad coalition.

The stumbling block is Corbyn and his historical links to the IRA.

Didn't see real numbers projected but thought 'very unlikely' would mean far greater than 19 votes.

Nope. Every pundit predicted a government majority of 13 (Tory+DUP).

The Labour party should have convinced David Miliband to be their leader when they had the chance. They would have been in power for 3 years now.

Terrible, terrible strategists.

Memories are short.

That GE was called by May with the support of her party in order to secure the landslide that would allow her to push through her version of Brexit.

To see Corbyn taking that to a minority Government as a failure is a rewriting of history.

Whilst I disagree with his stance on Brexit I cannot see what he could have done in the current situation. We are stuck with May clinging to power and forcing through whatever she can get her party and the DUP to vaguely unite behind.

It seems a pointless exercise. (Sturgeon has said she and her party will continue to support the motions as they have no confidence in May, though.)

Even if one was won (which it won't be unless massive changes), the Government would have 2 weeks to regain the confidence of its own party and the DUP.

We are stuck with May dictating the terms. Whatever bills are brought won't be amended because there is no consensus for any one position in parliament (save, perhaps to rule out no deal). Ultimately that means whatever she ends up with as her deal will be what we get (whether that leads to re-ignition of "the troubles", riots from the right wing or whatever else it might be).
