It is depressing although with the myriad data points and variables flying around it’s hard to get a true picture of what’s going on, here and elsewhere

Germany’s infection rate back to 1.0 & measures likely to be strengthened agai on 14:20 - Apr 28 with 1753 views | longtimefan | I might be being thick but I can't see how that comment relates to the actual number of recent new cases reported. I would have thought that for R to be back to 1, new case numbers would stay constant or increase, rather than decrease, as seems to be the case over the last 5 days.

As I mentioned earlier - this is, in part, why I have an inkling we are going to see a bounce.

Agree. Anything above 1.0 is just a disaster waiting to happen and could see a health service overwhelmed again

Our stats aren't great again today, although Monday has always been lower: NHS England has announced 546 more deaths of patients who tested positive for Covid-19, bringing the total number of confirmed reported deaths in hospitals in England to 19,295. Of the 546 new deaths announced today: - 93 occurred on 27 April - 213 occurred on 26 April - 79 occurred on 25 April The figures also show 141 of the new deaths took place between 1-24 April while the remaining 20 deaths occurred in March, with the earliest new death taking place on 19 March. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

My personal theory is that this is the time that the Nightingale hospitals were designed for, rather than the current first wave and the policy here will be 'herd immunity by backdoor'. [Post edited 28 Apr 2020 15:39]

Yep, we will see a bounce, as will the whole world as things reopen. A succession of lockdowns of varying degrees will be part of normal life for 18 months

Germany’s infection rate back to 1.0 & measures likely to be strengthened agai on 16:06 - Apr 28 with 1456 views | NotSure | So the head of the country’s infectious diseases has told everyone is now 1.0 … but has released no data to back this up? And we believe this without question. I find that amazing.

Surely this can't be possible now that it is nearly Summer.

Germany’s infection rate back to 1.0 & measures likely to be strengthened agai on 21:06 - Apr 28 with 1233 views | hype313 | Problem Germany has is that you have two competing regions, one being North Rhine Westphallia and the other, Bavaria, can't remember, but essentially one of them is pro lockdown for as long as possible and the other is pro business and open everything up, add the fact that the two mayor's in the respective regions are fighting to replace Merkel, and you can see why Germany is a little polorised.

I went looking for the latest statistics from Germany and found this useful short video instead, it explains R numbers in under three minutes: https://www.dw.com/en/whats-the-reproduction-number-r/av-53234319 But it left me wondering if we can talk about R1 if we are still not sure about immunity. This is the best I could find on the stats, it isn't much but it does have a discussion over R rate and numbers infected: https://www.thelocal.de/20200428/german-virus-spread-worsens-as-lockdown-eases [Post edited 29 Apr 2020 6:12]

Germany’s infection rate back to 1.0 & measures likely to be strengthened agai on 07:54 - Apr 29 with 938 views | Pinewoodblue | Surely the decision to ease back on restrictions wasn’t taken long enough ago to be responsible for the increase. The increase must have been caused by something else. They would be right to admit they have opened up too soon though.

I agree with your first sentences but wonder if you have watched the video UrbanBlue posted with regard to the last sentence, and that sentence may not even logically follow from the first two.
