Would squads of 19 solve the disparity in the Premier League? 23:22 - Jul 26 with 1747 views | ElderGrizzly | I like it (well some of it). Squad of 19 supplemented with U22s would stop the hoarding of players. Clubs would moan unless it was Europe wide though as you would artifically constrain their ability to compete with the big continental clubs

Maybe in the top leagues, but certainly not in the league's outside the top divisions. Clubs assets have risen 60%? That's just transfer value inflation, and means you also outlay 60% more on purchases, not a significant indicator of financial health. Lawyers will always find a way around the measures that are meant to bring parity. I do however like any idea that stops the hoarding of players.

Sounds like a cracking idea to me. Maybe your numbers suggest it should be a lower limit of 14/15? The hoarding of players would become pointless so that would help even things up regardless or where the limit was set.

Over half the teams in the PL for the last year of available accounts (18-19) were making losses. Yeah, it's a bit of a myth that the PL is the land of milk and honey. Yes the income is obscene but as you say costs rise. And substantially when it comes to things like wages and fees. [Post edited 27 Jul 2020 9:34]

Big clubs don’t really hoard players at that age though - most of those played a decent number of games and those that didn’t are players the clubs want rid of anyway so would just leave them out of their squads The hoarding tends to be younger players which would still happen under the proposal - in fact it would arguably become worse if clubs were forced to marginally trim their squads

Wage cap will do the same thing at lower levels.

It would work if they weren't allowed to loan them out either, so their only allowed to give contracts to 19 players aged 22+ This would force clubs into making a decision on their promising youngsters earlier - do they give them a squad place or sell, take Liverpool it's just Harry Wilson and Sheyi Ojo they would have decisions to make on, Karius, Grujić and Nathaniel Phillips I imagine would get sold. Also several big clubs have a veteran 3rd choice keeper on their books, that would end You won't get scenario's like Garbutt where he's 27 and his club has only now decided he's not good enough

Banning all loans would be far and away the simplest solution. Clearly, clubs would be far more reluctant to hoard players.
