Sadiq Khan actually went to Oxford Street today and encouraged everyone to come shopping. It might not be London who goes to Tier 3, as these are likely to be day trippers, taking Covid back to lower level places. Trains were rammed today apparently too

I think these measures are going to be harder and harder to maintain as people get complacent about a vaccine being on the horizon. Lets hope we don't totally balls it at the final hurdle.

I think too many people think as a vaccine is here, it doesn’t matter anymore. The vaccine won’t even be fully rolled out to the vulnerable until April/May. The rest of us will be looking at September based on current planning, with social distancing, masks etc around until then too.

Stokie I know from your previous posts that you are passionate about this , like I said the other week to which you did make a reasonable comment , but a lot of people have been working through the pandemic since March , I’ll speak from my own experience here which I know is the same as a lot of people who also have been working , we are forced to mix with up to 100 households per day to provide essential goods to the public and companies , why should we be allowed to mix at work when it is making the government money but not be allowed to have an extended family round at Xmas , luckily where I work we have had not had one case of corona so maybe people are getting a bit complacent over it , considering there is say a 100 people who go shopping , mix with others , see their families , how many people is that combined , I really don’t know what is the answer , no one does , do we live our lives in a bubble or do we carry on. As normal , I dunno , I watched I couple of tv things recently , one about Spanish flu and one about the plague , both times the virus in the end petered out , I imagine it will be the same this time , I know from your posts you into the science side , but do you really believe a vaccine can be found considering that the flu and the common cold are a corona virus and no cure has been found for them , I’m genuinely interested in your comments on this

"the flu and the common cold are a corona virus" No, no, no, not this again. The 'common' cold is not any one thing and is not a coronavirus. Where does this come from? The cold symptoms the body experiences are a number of reactions to any one of tons of rhino viruses and not any one specifically. In a similar fashion there is no any one 'flu' although those do fall under the corona category. C-19 isn't the flu though and manifests itself differently. Also it has not had the opportunity of being around for years and years to yet mutate into many unrecognisable strains. Spanish flu died out because it flipping well killed most people it came into contact with! Look at how Ebola works for example; something that deadly isn't a successful virus, and although Spanish flu was successful in the way it spread, the Earth's population was a small proportion of what it is now. Consider the demographics today compared to then for a start. [Post edited 6 Dec 2020 0:17]

Oh I have , to put it in perspective the plague killed 25% of Londoners , the common cold is a form of corona virus , google it , flu is a form of corona virus once again google it , now this Covid 19 is a new type of corona virus , yes it’s deadly but it’s a corona virus like the others , I did not say it’s a flu , I said the flu is a corona virus , like I said I’ve had to work since March mixing with hundreds of households , that is why and believe it or not it’s your choice , but people who have had to work through these bad times and don’t get me wrong at the start of this pandemic I was sh it scared of going to work , they think and maybe rightly so , that if they have had to mix with households at work , then why should they not be able to see their family outside work

I don't need to Google it. The common cold is not a coronavirus. It's a rhino virus. A coronavirus can, and invariably does, cause symptoms that are familiar with a cold but that's not the same thing. Edit: I already know the sodding flu is a cornona virus, I had just said so. Why don't you read what people say? [Post edited 6 Dec 2020 0:23]

Evening Jeera, good summary and entirely correct to highlight the distinct difference between C19 and flu. That this comparison persists is depressing. One small point, both the flu and coronaviruses are RNA viruses but the flu isn't part of the coronavirus family, it's in the separate influenza family. Interestingly (or not), the Spanish flu actually weakened the bronchial tubes and lungs which cleared the way for bacterial pneumonia to come in and kill the patient. A number of people on here and around the world wouldn't want that classified as a flu death given the criteria they seem unhappy with regarding C19 deaths. SB

Well it’s good to have a good discussion on it , thanks , but from what I’ve read the common cold is a corona virus , if I’m wrong I’m wrong no problem , but flu certainly is , like Spanish flu that was , but it’s more about the cure and if there can be a cure or wether it has to run its course before it goes , I honestly don’t know the answer I wish I did , all I do know is , and I’m not getting all Paz now but the ammount of deaths ain’t all down to corona , yes a lot are but what do we do , do we shut up shop and carry on or do we hide from it , I dunno , what do you think ?

And that's the problem, they expect people to die from C-19 on the spot as though they'd been struck by lightning. Rather than acknowledge it's the complications brought on by contracting these illnesses that kills people. Good luck, I'm going to bed.
