How sad, decent manager... probably border line cult figure at Anfield

Very sad and a surprise. Didn't occur to me he was that age.

He always came across well and he was one of the first PL managers I recognised when I started watching.

Very sad news - always liked the man and he was a very good manager. RIP Gerard.

I remember watching him on the touchline at PR when we played Liverpool and saying to my son "Crikey, he'll have a heart attack if he goes on like that." I've never seen a manager so worked up over such a long period of time.

Very good manager. RIP

Pretty sure he did actually have one while manager at Anfield? I remember something health related and Phil Thompson or someone taking temporary charge.

RIP.

He's had a lot of health issues in the past IIRC. Didn't he have time off for illness whilst at Liverpool and Villa?

He was rather annoyed that evening, to put it mildly, at having to play us on the Tuesday two days following an FA Cup semi final and three days prior to another PL match on the Good Friday. The week they wanted to play the match we had Matt Holland and Hermann Hreidarsson on international duty.

Despite that fixture congestion they won three cup competitions that season. A few months later it was when he had his serious heart issues.

I seem to recall him looking pretty ill when he was at Villa

My hobbies include being quiet during trips, clapping with songs, and diabetes.
