Who's cricketing then? 03:41 - Feb 5 with 2750 viewssnudge27

I'm not convinced of the wisdom of getting up at half three on a work day, but I've got the coffee on the go and I'm safely ensconced in front of the TV.

Question is whether England will be able to do enough to persuade me not to go back to bed...

Yep, staying awake with Nick Knight on coms is going to prove quite the challenge. Great toss to win, get through this new ball and go big.

Looks a good pitch to bat on. First time I’ve seen Bumrah, v unorthodox action. Can’t beat proper cricket on the tele.

So far so good. Team much as expected. Pitch doesn’t look too dangerous. Early morning tea & toast. Feet up. Magic!

If I wasn't working from home, getting up at 3:50 and then going to work would be a struggle. Having managed the Sri Lanka tests nicely, I'm very much looking forward to the next 5-6 weeks.

Opening pair playing proper test cricket. Patient and no silly risky shots. This really should be 2 days worth of batting on this pitch...

Inexplicable shot by Burns to get out there. India weren't threatening us at all and we've given them a wicket.

And Lawrence now gone plum lbw and all of a sudden, it looks like India's session.

Balls and balls.

Insanity wasn't it? Just seen a stat that's only the 8th sweep he's played in test cricket. 15 mins til lunch and playing a shot he's not massivly comfortable with can only be classed as a brain fart...

A real sickener of an end to that session. A very untroubled 30 odd and like you say 'a brain fart' to give it away. You have to bat big in India. Even 450 in the past first dig often hasn't been enough as India can pile on 600 odd very quickly.

Lunch came at a good time there. We looked ripe for another wicket or two there. Look pretty shellshocked.

It's just so frustrating, get into lunch 70-0 on a featherbed and you set up the whole game. Brainless from Burns.

We’ll see. Feel a bit for Lawrence coming in at 3 but also for Crawley who hasn’t played at 3, his natural position this winter, and now isn’t playing at all!

Really good days test cricket so far.

Disappointing that Burns got out in the manner he did, but that shot was on just purely executed.

Shame I've now got to log in to work.

Crawley was ruled out with injury, otherwise he'd have played & batted 3.

Great to have international cricket back on Channel 4. I don't want to jinx him, but Sibley is looking very composed at the crease and coping confidently with the Indian spin bowlers.

Got it on now but didn't fancy a 4am start. Good knock from Sibley so far.

I think Broad and Anderson are bowling so well I would have played both.

Our spinners are not good enough, so I would have played one and then played our best bowlers and backed them to get 20 wickets between them.

Root and Lawrence can bowl a few overs. Agree with you that the spinners aren't good enough so better to play to our strengths.

Getting up at 4am is a little early but enjoyed the last hour or so, Root and Sibley were becalmed when I first started watching but have played well since. Just seen the Burns wicket and can see why it got the reaction ti did - pretty decent position over all so far.

Need to build on that now, India will be capable of scoring a lot of runs on this pitch.

Just joining for the last session. Shut eye and breakfast came first. Looking for a Root century

Happy to wake up again to find no further wickets lost. Liking Root's run of form here. Captain leading by example very well.

Brilliant knock. Credit to Sibley too. The way he bats so long and selflessly for the side is very encouraging. Once in, he is hard to shift.

This is the thing about Sibley, he's not pretty and he's limited with his shots, but he bats time and obviously has a strong mental approach. Very much a throw back to the older generation of cricketers. Hope he gets to his 100 too!

Yup, these 2 have their eye in. Lovely stuff for a sunny morning. Will warm us through the weekends snow!
