Great to go down with a fight but sadly whatever England manage to do is going to be academic at this point.

No idea when I began here, was a very long time ago. Previously known as Spirit_of_81. Love cheese, hate the colour of it, this is why it requires some blue in it.

Yeah right. 250ish ahead already. Needs a monsoon.

Leach a menace this morning though.

Good start today clearly but this partnership is just rubbing it in now. Hopefully England can make a decent score in the fourth innings and make some runs ahead of the next two Tests.

Yeah, I think the best we can hope for now is to save face with a battling fourth innings. See if the openers can stick around for a bit, maybe a couple of other batsmen dig in and get a score. Go into the final test with a bit of momentum at least. Much as the pitch is awful, some of our batting in the first innings was fairly ordinary.

All I've learned from this test is that it's perfectly fine to complain about green wickets and clouds for three years, but pointing out a wicket falling apart at lunch on day 1 is a definite no-no...

Seems that the consensus is that the ball goes softer after 30 overs or so and batting becomes a bit easier. Be good to get through that and aim to bet this third innings score to start with.

Yes, England never got a partnership going - Sibley and Root both failing didn't help - until they were five down. It was a it late then.

Yeah, it does seem that once the ball goes soft and you get in on the pitch it is possible to get a decent partnership going. If we can get a couple of those and try to get past 250 at least, that'd be a respectable effort. We've bowled fairly well today, spinners still inconsistent at times and that's probably the big difference between the sides on this pitch.

We've been completely outplayed but I firmly believe had we won the toss this game would be much tighter. We're fighting hard but this game was effectively over at tea on Day 1.
It should be hard to beat SC teams away but this pitch is p!ss poor.
My only gripe today is why we haven't tried to take Ashwin out, Stone should aiming for his digits, at times we're a bit too nice.

Foakes on fire!

Ben Foakes dad was my PE teacher at high school. A lovely bloke who died too young.

He stood in for our English teacher when he was off sick once. Peter Foakes told us all to read our assigned book and then proceeded to sit with his feet on his desk and read a daily newspaper for the entire lesson.

I’d be really surprised if England matched their first innings total.

Broad hasn't bowled much in this test. I wonder if they'll be tempted to abandon the planned rotation and play him and Jimmy together for the day-nighter along with possibly Woakes.

If we can keep the chase to under 500 I reckon we're still well in the game.

Doesn't appear to be a lot of social distancing in a lot of the crowd.

The only way we stand a chance in this match is if all menace leaves the pitch that turns incredibly flat.

A fairly pointless selection in hindsight.

Seems to be the Indian thinking. Going to bat us right out of it.

I like the look of Siraj. Very good in Australia and playing well with bat here, also got a wicket first ball in our innings.

Looks a bit of a rockstar character, a bit like Jadeja. Shame he is out as he is box office, would have got a hatful of wickets on this pitch.
