Chantry Park? on 15:02 - Mar 11 with 3987 views | StochesStotasBlewe | Often walk the dog there. Some interesting trees if you are into that (I am). Fishing down at the lake, so yeah, a nice park to while away an hour or two.
| We have no village green, or a shop.
It's very, very quiet.
I can walk to the pub. |

Chantry Park? on 15:06 - Mar 11 with 3947 views | Timefliesbyintheblue | It most certainly is - it is the largest park in Ipswich and runs parallel to Hadleigh and London Roads. Can be a bit soggy underfoot in this weather especially and is a favourite for dog walkers. Parking is easier from the Hadleigh Road entrance as the London Road entrance is quite obscure. I visit it often as it houses The Sue Ryder Neurological Centre. Highly recommended.
Chantry Park? on 15:07 - Mar 11 with 3959 views | SpruceMoose | I mean, it's a park. A pretty nice one. You've probably seen parks before. If you go expecting some grass, some trees and a couple of ponds it'll be fine. If you go expecting a UNESCO World Heritage site you'll probably have a bad time.

It does have an impressively large Yew tree and very good sized wild area.

I've seen a few decent carp by the reed beds, they are wily old warriors by the look of it. Stacks of roach, perch and skimmers to catch on the whip with a pint of maggots, good fun with the younguns for a few hours. Gets rammed down there of a weekend in nice weather, so week days generally quieter.

My Brother in law and his father in law used to go there and as much as I like them I never felt comfortable fishing somewhere where they were permitted - if you know what I mean. I got the feeling it would be full of riff raff and crack heads. Plus there are an awful lot of adders around there.

Put it this way, i wouldn't night fish down there, but during the day it's fine. Some of the Romanian guys down there use kit like they are fishing for sharks. They never seem to catch anything, which is no surprise, but they take a good supply of beers which we've shared from time to time. Never come across adders down there, a few grassies though. Grass snakes, adders. Multipliers, dividers and the deadly subtractors.

I was expecting some kind of whoosh set-up tbh. I don't do snakes. Now that you have even mention there are snakes by that lake would be enough to stop me going there. I find the things really creepy and cannot get my head around how some can out 'run' and out swim us. [Post edited 11 Mar 2021 20:03]

Uppied for the whoosh sentiment, less so for the snakeophobia - I think they're pretty nice all told.

They put signs up sometimes if they get riddled to warn the dog walkers. Some bloke I was fishing opposite at Ladywood once kept getting hassle of a female grass snake for ages, I reckon she had eggs near him. I would have just moved swims.

When I was four years old-ish I popped round to the neighbours'. It was only a couple of doors down; all households knew each other and that stuff. I had an uncle and aunt a few doors down, next door to us were my Godparents, that kind of thing. Anyways, I got a few yards and a snake was following me on the pavement. I was in a right state by the time I got to the neighbours door. I thought it was chasing me, but of course, looking back, I will assume it just happened to be going in the same direction. Even a picture of a snake can make me uncomfortable.

I used to quite like them. Place I worked at when I left school used to sell them, I was quite comfortable handling them. Wouldn't do it now, they give me the creeps these days. Often see grass snakes when fishing, not my cup of tea! Always check bivvy for snakes before putting my head down. My daughter was doing some voluntary work in USA once and stayed on a camp thing for mentally disabled kids. She reckons there were loads of them, always in the cabins looking for the mice. Snakes that is, not the kids. Sod that!
