I'd be seriously tempted to try a diamond for now 21:29 - Mar 9 with 1187 viewspointofblue

---------------------------Holy-----------------------
Matheson - Woolfenden - Wilson - Kenlock
-------------------------Downes--------------------
-----------Dozzell ----------------- Bishop--------
--------------------------Judge----------------------
---------------- Parrott ----- Jackson------------

Subs: Cornell, Ward, Chambers, Harrop, Edwards, Lankester, Norwood

We are finding it harder and harder to produce anything of note down the wings, ending in crosses going to the keeper/over everyone's heads/being easily blocked. Why not try and generate more through the middle and have two working of each other up top, allowing the full backs to provide width? I think Matheson can fulfil that role; admittedly I have some doubts about Kenlock.

Ha, how did I miss him? Chambers for Nsiala on the bench. I'll edit.

I kind of like the youthfulness of it.

I think I would stick with Chambers or Nsiala instead of Mathieson or Woolfenden and play Jackson alongside Norwood. I would be surprised if a Parrott and Jackson combination would score many.

Regardless of the system, I think we need to get Dozzell and Bishop on the ball higher up the pitch and looking to play the ball forward more. We also need more support for Norwood up front.

The point of Matheson and Woolfenden in this formation is firstly Matheson's attacking instincts and secondly the fact that Woolfenden has the ability to play from the back. I wouldn't necessarily be against a Chambers - Wilson centre back pairing but I think it would put pressure on the midfield to come back for the ball or the full backs to get forward.

Didn't we do a diamond against Posh and we were woeful?

No. Stick with the 4-2-3-1

Started well enough; the key issue was the lack of pace on the wings which Peterborough exploited.

The diamond is always my go-to formation on Fifa Career Mode, usually play it wide though.

Should we not maybe give Cook more than a few days to try to implement his way of playing before we start changing formation? Last night had many faults as a performance but was still a step up from Saturday and at times we showed we're not a million miles away from being half decent. It'll take time, Lambert spent two and a half years here but built nothing, no real partnerships in the side, no real patterns or combinations of play. That won't come overnight.

I've heard this a lot about Woolfenden being able to play from the back, but he misplaces a lot of passes

Yep, he's only really had a day or two on the training pitch, got to give him a chance.

Whenever we play with a diamond we just get outnumbered down the wings and beaten easily, you can perhaps play it if the opposition have 35 yr old full backs - but there aren't many teams that daft!!
