“A no show witness protesting evidence is rather poor behaviour.”

From Phil’s story: Tarik Shamel, head of on-field regulation, explaining: “I spoke with the Ipswich Town club secretary, Stuart Hayton, on the telephone, who confirmed that neither the club nor Alan Judge wished to make any complaint against Mr Drysdale.

So AJ was happy to let the matter stay on the field of play and didn’t want any action taken against Drysdale.

Also from Phil’s story: The club was contacted again on March 7th with Shamel adding: “Alan Judge was unavailable to be contacted”.

AJ was in Northern Ireland March 7th. His mother having passed away the previous day.

At the time - and watching it, the one word I’m sure I heard most clearly was indeed C.

Agree, AJ should just move on and take it on the chin, I have always feared a referee backlash on 50-50 decisions by continuing with a war of words and this could still happen.

WHy should he have to have his name dragged through the mud because the ref is doubling down on his mistake?

Absolutely this. Referees should be held accountable for their actions or inactions.

I thought refs were miked up for this scenario?

The referee had grounds to send him off by his version of events, but decided not to. Even if Judge said bad things, the ref's point of view is invalid if he opts not use the tools at his disposal to conduct himself properly. Heat of the moment reaction? Maybe, but if it is - being a referee isn't a job he's suited for.

Do we know he is? Do we know AJ didn't say something? Why was AJ so keen to move on and forget all about it (is that an indication that possibly he did say something he hoped would have been forgotten). Or is the ref simply lying?

We don't really know what went on. Obviously, yes if AJ didn't say something similar to that claimed by the ref he shouldn't have his name dragged through the mud. Ref should provide proof if he can (as someone else said, given no crowd it's more likely pitch side mics picked something up)

Judge has said what he said in recent news story, vehemently denied what is claimed to have said, and also said the club have audio evidence of this......fact club released this on their website as official statement lends some credence to his story.

You could be right. The club have burnt their bridges with me a bit lately though and I wouldn't trust them on face value. They were quite happy to lie publically to try and smear a unofficial fan group recently.

I obviously don't know. I'd say the onus is on the ref to prove his claims and if he can't then they should all move on.

Do you not think this carrying on is just making something out of nothing?

In my eyes, Judge shouldn’t have reacted the way he did and even by his own account, used abusive language towards the referee which he probably shouldn’t have done.

The ref obviously shouldn’t have reacted how he did and he should have sent Judge off for his reaction.

They’ve both done something wrong, seems a bit playground stuff arguing who was more wrong and whether one was called a cünt or not.

This not wanting his name dragged through something is absolutely rubbish, I can’t picture for one minute someone coming up against Judge and going “omg you called the ref a cünt”. - The ref has had his ban, let it go imo.

There is quite a distinction between calling his decision an 'f'ing joke' and calling him a 'cheating bald C U N T' IMO. What Judge claims happens several times within a game. Players swear on a football pitch, refs swear on a football pitch, it's an emotional, heat of the moment game.

Judge is getting all sorts of abuse on Twitter and in the press and seems to be the poster boy for everything that is wrong with the way players treat refs. Can understand why he wouldn't want - particularly when he's grieving the death of his mother at the moment too.

He had let it go, but the ref has now chucked him under the bus with it when he's tried to allow the situation to move on.

I cans ee why this has angered him, especially if he has evidence it is wrong

It does seem hilarious if 5 foot 7 Alan Judge (nice bloke, well spoken and generally quite bright) becomes the "poster boy" for all this. Even within our team, he'd be in the lower quartile of offenders.
