It was some day and when Wark scored, it was possibly my best ever moment following Ipswich Town. Even more than the final itself, strangely. The Reuser goal against Barnsley was close to those tbf.

I agree about Warky's clinching goal because it meant that we were going to Wembley in the days when going to Wembley actually meant something. Possibly my best ever ITFC moment too, it was wonderful.

The West Brom marking on the corner from which Wark scored... Social distancing in 1978.

Agreed. In those days, the FA Cup wasn’t the tinpot trophy it is now. It was equal in players and supporters minds to winning the Championship. Better in many ways because you got ‘that’ televised day at Wembley. The only domestic club game shown live. Because we are little Ipswich, stalwarts of the old third division now it’s hard to believe where we once were. Nobody calls Leicester ‘little Leicester’ and rightly so, but that was the level or higher that we attained for ten years. Ironically, the 77/78 season was by far the poorest in that period League wise. A lot of that was due to injuries, but fortunately for the cup games we managed to have the key players on the field and the rest is history.

Martin, a key defender, had been sent off and the West Brom lads were flagging having given it the kitchen sink by that stage.

Makes you wonder how many English clubs have played at the new Wembley stadium and how many, like ITFC, that have never done it.

While I think Beattie was the best player we ever had, Wark is my favourite - he always seemed to pop up with a vital goal one minute, a saving block or tackle the next. Absolutely one of the best days ever!

Completely agree. Release of so much tension then pure joy when Wark scored What a team. TWTD

Great experience although I was a bit young to appreciate it fully at the time.
