Cook's a good laugh isn't he 11:24 - Oct 22 with 1562 viewsGarv

I don’t get how supporters just want managers sacked on a result, I physically can’t get my head around it. But that’s football today and I get it."

It’s all down to the “Sky Sports era”. They’re the masters of speaking out both sides of the mouth.

He contradicts himself all over the place in his press stuff.

Like with all of our managers, I tend not to take too much notice of it. I have some sympathy as trotting out answers to the same questions week after week must be bloody tedious.

Indeed. Best to take most of it with a pinch of salt.

I suppose it’s not easy having your every word analysed when you’ve been asked questions immediately after a result …. Then held accountable for it several weeks / months later. He’s in the public eye , every syllable is recorded for all time, unlike you or I who may have a conversation and then it’s largely forgotten .

I think he’s doing alright ….

I might be the only one here, but I don't take it as being contradictory at all.

To me it seems to be Cook saying that, personally, he doesn't understand the mindset of supporters that want managers sacked instantly or after one bad performance and that he disagrees with people that do think like that, but at the same time he understands that this type of behaviour is now commonplace in football.

You're not the only one, you are correct.

You wanted Mick sacked for getting us into the playoffs,Jewell to stay on despite marooning us at the bottom of the table and Lambert kept on, in all fairness.

Also: constantly looking for hidden meanings in bland presser statements is a mug's game.

You're right, the post wasn't meant as any kind of criticism or mockery, just the wording that made me chuckle.

Side note: I’m always impressed by how some posters can keep up to date with who said what about a player/manager/politician from years ago. You and glassers are good at this. I can barely remember what I had for lunch yesterday.

If it helps, it's all a carefully maintained front - I only remember the REALLY daft/awful/weird things.

This is a very good point. I'm not sure if "good at this" is the right phrase or "as sad as this".

Agreed but you may have noticed that when you're just looking to criticise someone facts don't really matter. All you need is for someone else to come and agree with you whether what you have said is accurate or not.

When did you get so sensitive J2?

No one in this thread has criticised Cook. Garv made it clear that he found it amusing, I stated that I had sympathy for him facing the same questions time after time.

Its just a fairly light observation about manager speak, nothing more.

Not a contradiction.
Doesn't get the managers sacking on a result thing.
He gets that that's modern football and that's how people are.
