Rene Gilmartin staying on first team staff…. 15:26 - Dec 20 with 1607 viewsKieran_Knows

… I presume as GK coach with McKenna hoping to appoint 1 other external person to his staff in next 24 hours or so.

Mentions that about 18 minutes in to the interview on club YouTube.

Thought it interesting how he talked about Pert and that he understands what McKenna wants and can get that across on the training pitch. I do wonder where we would be if Richardson was able to support Cook. I was going to say something about a good solid number 2, but I won't.

If McGreal goes back to the u23s where does Dyer fit in? Really hope there is a place for him (and more than just laying out the cones)

I had a good solid No 2 this morning 😄

Presumably that's why you didn't want to say anything? 🙂

Is Gilmartin actually a keeper coach though? As in done his badges for that?

He went across as assistant manager to John McGreal at Swindon

He certainly was the GK coach for Ireland U21s. According to Wiki, he still is.

Never mind that, the important question is can he clean the kits and bake cakes?

McGreal is going to the U23s to help Dyer, not to run them.

It is good that McKenna does not feel threatened by having McGreal around the place. Hopefully he can lean on him for advice (and I am sure he will be able to chat to Mourinho and others too).

Cook needed a solid number 2, but he had Dyer 'ere?

If Cook had had a solid number 2 then he wouldn't have had the bad runs in August and September?

If he had an effective number two who complemented his skills and worked well with him, we may have had a bad run at some point but not one lasting from March until December 2021 (with a brief blip for a month in October).
